Question about 2006 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

Wrench light and transmission slipping

I was finally able to get it to the dealer with the light on. They extracted a code and it is a known issue with my vehicle. Its a 2006 Explorer so you could have the same problem. The problem is the Electronic Throttle Control which Ford is replacing.

I have a 2008 merc mariner premier. My wrench light came on. I replaced the transmission (brand new from Ford). After research I came to understand that power train is involved with this issue. Don

There is probably a scanner which can diagnose this. It would be more elaborate than the 100-200 dollar units.

There is a sensor which prevents the transmission from shifting into final drive until the engine warms up. Could be the wrench light is telling you that it is missing this signal or the signal values do not match specs.

I own a 1998 Chevy Blazer 4wd that is on its 3rd transmission and I'm having the same issue where when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear it's slipping badly my rpm's rev up to 3500 and I have to take my foot...

this is a known issue with the gm 4L60E transmission. the valve body in transmission causes this. if it is wore, then less fluid is sent to shift selonoids. thus causing torque convertor not to lock up, and this causes slipping. if it slips 2 consecutive trips then the transmission detects this and should turn on check engine light. ( p1870 ). you can see if the tcc solinoid is bad. but if not its usually the valve body in tranny.

The tool light comes on after traveling

The dealer should be able to read the trouble code.

This can occur with the TCM (Transmission Control Module) and/or ECU program. This may require either a re-flash or a program download to the ECU. The ECU program is not a warranty item, but is typically in the $75 to $100 range.

However there is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for the “wrench light”.

TSB 05-14-4

This article supersedes TSB 05-09-15 to update the Issue and Dealer Coding.

ISSUE:
Some vehicles built 11/29/2004 and prior may exhibit the wrench light on with both P2106 and P2135 diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

ACTION:
Replace the throttle position sensor (TPS) following the instruction sheet included in the TPS service kit. Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using WDS release B36.11 and higher, or B37.2 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the B37 CD. Calibration files are also available at www.motorcraft.com

I hope this helps!

1999 Chevy Astro P01870 code

The P1870 DTC code is trans-axle component slipping. In most cases you can replace the transmission control solenoid and it should solve the issue. These solenoids are known to kick this code. Also I would recommend doing a transmission service.

Nissan primera, engine management light permanently on. When car is first started gearbox changes without a problem. when the engine gets warm it sticks in 1st or sticks in 3rd and 4th and won't change...

Hi Kev,

Your Nissan Primera has an on-board diagnostic computer which can detect malfunctions in either engine or transmission.

When the Engine Management light remains lit, this means some faults are present and need investigating.

From what you've described, one of the issues is indeed related to the transmission, but you will need to have the trouble codes (DTC's) extracted from your vehicle's computer, in order to determine what requires repair.

Whenever power is disconnected (i.e. the battery) and re-connected, this resets your vehicle's computer momentarily, until such time as it detects the fault again.

Recommend you either have your local dealer extract the codes (for a small 15min labor fee), or learn to extract the codes yourself, using a suitable jumper wire.
