Question about 2006 Dodge Charger
Everything comes on but car won't start horn doesn't work
Hi Martha, I'm glad to help! There are 2 senarios when someone says a car want start. (1) The engine is turning over but it won't start and run. (2) You turn the key to the runs position and everything comes on but it does nothing, example the engine will not turn over. The first senario: You'll need to check fuel pressure to see if there is any. Pressure should be around 50 PSI. NEXT: you'll need to check for spark because you need to know if it is firing when you turn the engine over. This will narrow the problem down to either fuel or ignition. If one of these turns out bad, then further diagnosis will need to be done to find out what the problem is. (2) The second senario: If you turn the key to the run position and nothing happens. This could be a blown fuse, a run start relay, a starter, or WIN Module. Martha, working on these vehicles everyday, here is what I've found the most. The start run relay goes bad on these vehicles a lot. It's under the hood in the relay / fuse BOX. You can swap the relay with another one that looks the same and see if it starts. CAUTION: Do Not sway the relay with the Auto-Shut-Down relay are you'll have the same problem. If that doesn't work, here's something else you can try. Have someone tap the starter with a small hammer while you hold the key all the way to the run position like your trying to start the engine. If they hit the starter and it starts, then replace the starter. Here's something else you can try. If it is the WIN Module ( Ignition Switch) you can unhook the negative battery cable for 20 seconds then reconnect it and see if it starts, If it starts You'll need the repair shop to repalce the WIN Module because it will need to be programmed and the keys programmed to the WIN. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Martha.
