Question about 1999 Mazda B2500

Cranks but will not start

It sounds like it wants to start but doesnt and the alternator is getting constent power and becoming very hot

IT seems the alternator has shorted out as the diodes should not let the power back to the alternator . remove the power cable to the alternator and see if will start.

Battery is hot truck wont crank


If the battery is hot then the alternator has been overcharging it and now it is failed. (buckled plates ) have a load test done on the battery to confirm this . Have the alternator tested as it could be a wiring or regulator fault.

Sorry about the spell trying to eat but my car cut off on me so I was thinking that I ran out of gas so I put some gas in my car an now it's no power inside my car no light inside out my head light come on...

FIXES - * JUMP START IF POSSIBLE and if car starts take off 1 battery cable if car dies the ALTERNATOR IS BAD . * Pull 1 plug wire off and check for a hot spark or any spark for that matter .
Could be multiple things with multiple fixs need more info for a more precise answer. Start with the basics POWER +/- , FUEL , AIR , FIRE

Truck keeps dieing


I will throw out a few ideas, maybe someone else had the identical problem and solved it. With the gauges spiking, you have electricity running around trying to find a place to ground. This is not the whole problem though, because something is staying connected long enough to drain your battery.
There are several Alternator tests, Voltage output, and the Diode tests. You can get good readings on Voltage and still have bad diodes. Diodes act like little gates to keep electric flowing in one direction. When these little gates fail, it allows the battery to discharge through the Alternator.
Your problem sounds also like a stuck Relay. Relays work differently than many people imagine. Relays not only connect the HOT positive wires, but also connect one Negative wire to another Negative wire. When the contact points inside the Relay stick, a Negative wire may stay connected when the vehicle is turned off. Same thing for Positive wires in the Relay.
"Not starting" when shut off is confusing. Do you mean it cranks normally and does not fire up? or do you mean the Battery is dead and the starter will not crank the engine? If the Battery is too low to crank the engine immediately after driving, then the Alternator is not charging while you are driving and is not showing a discharge.
You may simply have a bad Ignition switch. The Alternator needs power from the ignition switch and it gets into the Alternator through the small plastic clip that goes into the Alternator case. Shorting inside the Ignition switch can also affect the Relays powered through the switch. The Ignition switch would be a good place to start to make sure all circuits are getting reliable power and that when the key is out, power is really off.
So have Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys do a Diode test on the Alternator on the truck. Its free and doing it on the truck can reveal truck wiring problems that will not show up on a bench check.

2001 pontatic grand am 3.4 new battery and alternator .car not starting.also battery terminals are getting hot


Sounds like a bad starter to me....the clicking ...sounds like the solenoid is throwing the drive gear out of the starter engaging the flywheel, but not sending power to the motor itself to turn the engine over.The battery getting hot suggest a "stuck or shorted" starter motor. The starter is a two step process.
Of course the extreme end could be a seized engine. Try turning the engine by hand at the crank ballancer bolt [clockwise only,battery disconnected] and see if it turns freely.

Doesn't get spark when cranking


Yo! Your battery doesnt have enough power to crank your engine.that has got to be a problem with your alternator.it is meant to charge your battery.please replace the alternator so it will charge your battery

have the battery charged andtested first. once a good power source is in there, take a volt meter and test your battery terminals for at least 13.5 volts. if not replace the alternator.

Harmonic balancer pulley is free spinning/not charging alternator .making a metal grinding metal sound ,doesnt have any power at take off,sluggish changing gears .


If the harmonic balancer is spinning freely on the crank, the key has sheared off and likely has damaged the balancer and possibly the crank. Pull it off, replace the key and check the balancer and crank for excessive wear.

My '08 FJ doesnt crank sometimes1


Sounds as though the battery is failing which you will notice as it gets cooler which i've heard it was overnight there. is that the original battery or a replacement ?

Car shuts down while driving


It is very likely the part that is giving you the problem is a Crankshaft Position Sensor, they go open circuit when they get hot, then after it cools it becomes a good circuit again, this is very frustrating, had the same issue with my Buick a few years ago, replaced the coils and the ignition module at a cost of hundreds, DID NOT CHANGE A THING, the crank sensor fixed the problem and was $30.00 from Buick.
