You must look to see if there is an electrical connector on the rack. Ifctherecis, it's Magnasteer.

i would recommend picking up a Haynes manual. They have excellent wiring diagrams and very good information on all areas of your vehicle. If you do not want to buy one, though, you can get a free one by logging on to autozone.com and registering for a free account. Add your car to your garage and they let you use online manuals similar to a Haynes' or Chilton's with diagrams. i cannot say for certain how good it will be, though, as i have had some good and some not as good experiences with their manuals. But, hey, for free? It is at least worth a look.

jack it up put it on jack stands / shake it make sure it's safe . remove tie rod end nuts and split them apart by using a splitter , do both sides .helps if the tires are removed, then unbolt the hoses from either the pump or rack then there's only a couple of bolts and it's out /ready to reverse and put in a new 1. then you may need to bleed the steering system again by turning wheel back and forth to work out air . good luck.

Steering effort is increased at higher speeds to provide firmer steering (road feel) and directional stability. The EBCM varies the steering assist by adjusting the current flow through the actuator to achieve a given level of effort to steer the vehicle. Your best bet is take your vehicle to a GM dealer or a ASE certified repair shop that knows about this system .

This is a very complex system an if you don't work on these systems all the time , I suggest you take it to a ASE certified repair shop that does !

The Magnasteer® system is a speed-dependent power steering system. The Magnasteer® system provides power assist at varying levels depending on need.
A bi-directional magnetic rotary actuator in the steering gear adjusts the amount of torque (driver effort) necessary to turn the steering wheel.
The Magnasteer® is controlled through the ABS module and varies the torque by adjusting the current flow through the actuator.
The amount of adjustment will be directly related to the vehicle speed. The controller receives speed-related input signals from the vehicle speed sensor.

2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP Sedan wheel bearing problems - computer says it bad put a new one in and computer still says it bad


You car has a Powertrain Control Module or Electronic
Control Module --- not a computer

No Motor vehicle self diagnoses themselves or
says anything is bad

All it can do, is set an OBD2 Trouble Code --if a sensor
goes out of range.

You have to use the codes to diagnose a particular
system & component test what you think may be a
problem

There is a lot monitored & data stored you won't see,
unless you access the ecm with a scan tool,not a code reader

  • Take a breaker bar or big rachet & release the tension on the automatic tensioner; very slowly
  • Loop the old belt around the pulleys & fan

Loss of power steering


If memory serves me correctly... the 05 deville is equipped with "Magnasteer" the electical connector at the rack and pinion is not a pressure sensor unless its on the line itself. The system operates by inducing voltage to magnets in the rack to make turning easier at lw speeds while adding resistance at higher speeds for added control and less drift. Check for any codes on your climate control by pushing "off and warmer" at the same time with the engine off, key on. Google the codes and see if any relate to the steering system and repost! I hope that helps!
