It sounds like you may have a leaking head gasket, that is just a guess but any local shop that has a gas analyzer can confirm it by testing for combustion gases in the coolant.

1990 BMW 525i 2.5L engine overheats after rplaceing water pump, stermostat,fan clucth,radiator

There's trapped air in the cooling system.
  • You need to remove the bleeder screw on top of the radiator when adding water to the expansion tank.
  • With the engine running, pour water into the expansion tank till you see air go out through the bleeder screw's hole.
  • Just keep adding water until no more air bubbles come out then just put the screw back in place.
  • Then fill the expansion tank to it's normal level/line.

I have change the radiator and water pump and keeps over heating not blown out any smoke no water in the oil so what is it shes the 318 I 99 ek4 6

Change the thermostat and check the radiator hoses. They could be stopped up or could be bent not allowing water flow.

I have a 1997 BMW 328i- Left it idling in the driveway for about 10 minutes, and it over heated, and started spewing rad. fluid out of overflow tank- let it cool down, took off up the road, and it...

yes, if the water pump is bad, input hose will be hot output hose will be cool, but that also could mean a bad thermostat.

a way to see if the water pump is pumping coolant is to remove the bleed screw on the thermostat housing and see if coolant spews out.

But it overheats. may as well change out the water pump and get rid of the original plastic impellers. While you're there, replace the thermostat with a 12 degree cooler one and drill 2 3/16" holes 180 degrees from each other in the thermostat.

2.8L motors are sensitive to overheating. you can bust a head gasket this way in no time. Also warp that long cylinder head.

Bmw 318i. Car was overheating although coolant full. Bled radiator and now its ok but now heaters inside car blows cold. any ideas i can try please

Sounds like the thermostat has stayed closed you will need to change it as it will blow the head gasket, very common on this model.

Also when you bled it though you may have left some air in the system this would also stop the heating working, they can be a pain to bleed through keep sqeezing the water hoses as you are bleeding it through and do not bleed it from the lower part of the radiator as it will be hard to get the air out as air will stay at the top, you should bleed from the top.

Bmw 728i over heating problem

The thermostat and water pump are both common failure points on BMW 6-cyl engines of this era. I would recommend checking the thermostat first, then moving on to the water pump. If the vehicle has overheated several times, you may need to remove the cylinder head and have it checked for warp.

Water is flowing changed the thermostat and the

are you sure you bleeded the air out correctly. These are a pain sometimes. Water pump blades are know to fall apart and this could also clog up the system almost anywhere

I have a 97 bmw 316i, we have changed the water pump, checked heads and changed radiator, bleed it at a 40degree angle filled it with coolant and it is still overheating after a ten minute drive?

You actually need the thermostat in to pressurize your cooling system or the coolant won't cyle through the radiator, it'll just cycle around the engine. Most people think without the thermostat in the coolant will just pump freely through the engine and radiator, but it doesn't.

Chuck in a new thermostat, purge the air out of the system and see if it overheats then. I gaurentee it won't, if it does then you've got head problems (but they should already be obvious by now).
