Whatever u do don't use Allen's Auto on Bankhead in Carrollton, GA THEY HAVE NO CLUE about foreign cars! Nice folks but not a clue about what they are doing. I have a relative that lives a few states away who told me what the problem was and I told the owner the possibility of the malfunction and spent 4 weeks and over $1500 for him to NOT fix it and not even give the issue we mentioned a look. A good mechanic is always willing to learn. This one is not, I am not sure if it because I am a female trying to tell him or what but he blatantly laughed at me. It turned out to be exactly what my relative said. We are in debt now unnecessarily because the part to fix the vehicle cost only 20$

Why does my 94 Chevy truck lose power going uphill

Chances are good your fuel filter is clogged, not allowing enough fuel to the engine for the high demand it has when going uphill.

Is it true that a damaged knock sensor can slow down or make the car lose power while going uphill? Toyota Corolla VE 98

Yes it can. The knock sensor retards the timing due to irregular levels of octane in todays gasoline, to eliminate or reduce what is called a spark knock. A malfunction could cause your car to lose power when car is under a load or uphill due to pre detonation or constantly retarded spark to the engine. If not replaced it can cause engine damage or head gasket damage. Hope this helps.

Losing power when I accelorate.

Fuel filter is the main culprit when you lose power going uphill. Going level or downhill means that the engine doesn't have to work all that hard and doesn't demand much fuel, so a partially clogged filter can usually flow enough to allow the car to run smoothly. Going uphill requires signficantly more fuel, and if the filter is clogged up, it won't be able to flow enough fuel. This will bog the car down and cause you to lose speed. Change your fuel filter.
