How to fix

I replaced all the fuses and the switch and still only getting power to half of the connector that plugs into the air ride compressor on my 94 grand marquis

Get a diagram. Could be you have inbound pins that you assume are power out pins. The compressor gets trigger signals from sensors. Also the doorjam switches, trunklid switch all must be closed for air compressor to work.

If car is at proper height, your compressor won't run. Some signals are ground signals to complete circuit. Also you have a Master dump solenoid in drivers front lower fender/valance area.
When they stick, the compressor won't run.

SOURCE: air suspension on my grand marquis comes on with engine off

What is probably going on is the air suspension has a leak so the compressor is breaking down. So it will run at odd times trying to make up for the times it can not run. What you need to do is look for a conversion kit. The conversion will stop all problems that you are having now and you will never have to worry about it again. I would recommend strutmasters.com. Needs a blower motor resistor if the fan only blows on one speed. It is located underneath the firewall on the outside, near where the passenger exhaust system is. You need to take the passenger side cat converter off to get to it.

Freon is what you are missing, our more specificly a refigerant charge that exceeds 45psi on the low side pressure line. This system has two pressure switches, a high side cut-out switch mounted on the rear of the compressor, and a low side or pressure cycling switch on the suction line.
Jump the low side switch contacts to ensure the electronics are sound for this system. If the compressor cycles, you know the system is low on a refrigerant charge. Turning on the AC is a request, and certain criteria must be met before the system operates as designed. Good luck

My ELC compressor do not come on buick


When you turn the key on, after a couple of seconds the system should cycle the compressor on for a couple seconds at least. If not, you'll need to troubleshoot if it is an electrical problem (fuse, relay, height switch/sensor, wiring in between components/bad connections) or a mechanical problem (compressor, hoses, bladder on air shocks leaking air).

There is a fuse & a relay for the Electronic Level Control/ELC also called Automatic Level Control/ALC under the back seat in the power distribution block/fuse. Switch out a relay with a similar one and check the fuse for a burnt center section.

There is a ride height sensor attached to one of the rear control arms. With the vehicle safely raised and supported, disconnect the 'link' from the sensor to the suspension arm. With the key ON and engine NOT running, push the arm on the ride height to the compressed/riding low setting. After about 15-30 seconds (it is slow to respond or it would kick on and off over every bump) the compressor should turn on and begin filling the air bladders on the rear shocks.

If the compressor still fails to come on, you'll need to unhook the harness connector at the compressor. Again, with the key ON, engine OFF, height sensor compressed connect a voltmeter to the Dark Green wire on the chassis side of the harness connector (there are four wires to the compressor. 2 wires are for the electric motor to raise the car, and 2 wires are for the Vent solenoid the releases air pressure lowers the car) and ground to see if the compressor is being told to turn on by the height sensor. If it is being commanded on and supplied electricity, and still doesn't make noise or pressure, then replace it off a similar year GM vehicle that has rear air suspension (Cadillacs, Buicks, Oldsmobile Auroras). As long as the compressors are the same, you can just remount it in your car's mounting bracket assembly and save some $$.

If the compressor comes on but the car won't rise, check the air lines to each shock from the compressor, the bladders on the shocks themselves, the filter on the compressor intake or even the vent solenoid assembly on the compressor unit has been known to leak/corrode/stick.

Air ride suspension rear dont work how can i check whats wrong?


The 97 Caddie Seville STS has an air compressor located under the car just in front of the passenger side muffler, above the crossmember. It is a pretty weak compressor, and is only designed to slowly fill up the shocks. Probable issues are a blown compressor, or leaky shocks. Before replacing either make sure you have power going to the compressor, and air going to the shocks. No power to the compressor could be caused by a bad wire, relay, connector or fuse all of which are cheaper to fix. If you have power, check the little air lines leading to the shocks from the compressor to see if you have a leak. Airlines are much cheaper than shocks.

My fuse is good but the air compressor does not come on and my crown victoria is riding low.


Hello, If you have any work done on your car or put something in the trunk, there is a switch on the Drivers rear quarterpane for the Air ride. Someone may have switched it off.

The system works like this. All four doors and the trunklid must be closed for the Air ride to cycle. The doorjam switches must indicate a closed position. There is a vent solenoid usually on the Drivers front inside fender, down low under the headlight area. You can follow the air lines to this part.

You need to look in your Owners manual for a Relay in the Powerbox where all the Relays stay. If the Relay is bad, your fuse will not get power. Check the hot side of the fuse with a testlight or Voltmeter looking for power when the Key is on and the doors are closed. If no power, blame the Relay. Change it and it may be the only problem in the system. Check the fuse socket again.

If you have power, the Air ride vent Solenoid may be bad. There are scanners which have the extra test function and there is a separate Diagnostic plug, usually around the passengers inner fender. If you pay to have this checked, it will save money on Labor costs by pin-pointing the problem quickly. It is very difficult to check the wires on each doorjam, the individual bag sensors, and motor connections without the Diagnostic plug.

I hope my solution about the Relay is all you need and is very helpful to you.

I changed my air compressor for my air ride suspension and now i have no power to my compressor. i changed the compressor relay as well.


check the fuses and the switch in drivers side rear compartment to make sure there is power to it.

2003 lincoln navigator. The air ride compressor will not come on. Checked all fusses and relays and they r good. The compressor will run when u straight wire it. Why won't it come on automatically?


I know you stated you checked all fuses and relay and they're ok but The 2003 Lincoln Navigator had two differently (wired) air ride systems. A early production and a late one, and I think I may have a good Idea of what your problem may be and will walk you through how to properly test the system. The early production navigators used a solid state compressor relay and the later production units used a standard style relay. The early ones with the solid state type has been known to have some problems and working for a Ford, Lincoln Dealer for 21 years I have replaced a good number of these solid state relay for a air ride compressor inoperative concern. There seems to be some confusion on the location of the solid state relay. I would advise you to look behind your front bumper on the passengers side of your vehicle (and below your headlight) and see if you have a 4 wire relay that's aluminum and finnd ribs on the front of it and I believe a black base where the wiring connector plugs in. (this will be mounted to the radiator support) if so, you Have got the early production style. I will walk you through how to test this relay and also help you to isolate the cause of your problem. I highly recommend using a volt ohm meter for these tests. I do not recommend using A TEST LIGHT due to the fact that you will be testing a circuit that is wired to the air ride control module, and there is a possibility of you damaging the module with a test light !!! I have been there, done that, NOT GOOD.
Ok with that said: your wire colors should be as follows:
one that's( gray and red)
another that's (light green and red)
another that's (dark blue and yellow)
and one that (light blue and pink).
Disconnect the connector at the relay and you'll be testing the wires in the connector (THAT HOOK UP TO THE RELAY). The air ride compressor and the air ride solid state relay share the same ground which is the light green and red wire.
Turn your volt ohm meter to dc volts scale and attach the black wire (NEGATIVE) lead of the volt ohm meter to the light green and red wire.
Hook the red lead of the volt ohm meter to the light blue and pink wire.
Here your volt meter should read battery voltage (of your car's battery) if not check the (F2-111) 50 amp designated fuse in the fuse box under the the dash on the passengers side (KICK PANEL).
If this fuse is ok, make sure you were making good contact with your test leads into the compressor relay connector.
If you're comfortable with the fact that you have a good connection at the relay connector and your fuse tested ok, then you have a ground problem at ground point G101 which is located right near the mounting location of the air ride relay.
If you had battery voltage when you tested between the (light green and red) and the light blue and pink wires, you have confirmed the power source and ground to the relay.
I should clarify myself at this point. The wires at the relay are as such: The ground is the light green and red wire, the light blue and pink is the fused power source to the relay, the dark blue and yellow wire is the relay trigger source from the air ride module to the air ride relay, and the grey and red is the relay output (battery +) to turn on the compressor. OK.
So now we're down to checking the trigger source to the relay and the relay output. At this point I want you to re-hook up the volt ohm meter with the meter still set at volts d/c scale and reconnect the (red lead) of the volt ohm meter to the (light blue and pink wire) and connect the (black) lead of the volt ohm meter to the dark blue and yellow wire (again at the relay connector).
Now this next step is best done with the help of an assistant!!
While watching your volt ohm meter, have your assistant turn on the key and open and close the drivers door two -to- three times. After cycling the door, you for a short time should see at least 5 volts minimum, if not battery voltage at your meter.
(this is a little bit unclear to me due to the fact the air ride module shows that the dark blue and yellow wire, as a ground from the air ride module to the relay. but does not clarify exactly what value that ground signal should be). I am referencing Fords own wiring diagram.
A solid state relay usally is allowed a trigger source of a lower voltage then a standard relay. If you find you have no voltage reading at your volt ohm on this test, you'll first want to check fuses F2-20 which is a 30 amp fuse and F2-27 which is a 5 amp fuse in the same fuse box as the F2-111 fuse you checked earlier.
The last test you need to make at the relay is checking the relay output to the compressor. This will be done by again using the volt ohm meter. This time you'll want to hook the black lead of the volt ohm meter to the light green and red wire at the reay connector and hook the red lead of the volt ohm meter to the grey and red wire at the relay connector. Again for this test, you'll need to have a assistant turn on the key, then recycle the drivers door again.
If the relay is working properly you should have battery voltage, aproximately 12 volts showing on your meter. If not and all other test procedures results were correct, you have a bad relay.
If you have 12 volts on this test we have confirmed the relay is good and the trigger signal from the air ride module is operating as designed.
If the pump runs like you said (when it is straight wired ) the remaining possiblity is a broke wire between the air ride relay to the air ride pump (this being the grey and red wire) which you can test by switching the volt ohm meter to the ohms scale and touching one lead of the meter to the grey and red wire at the relay connector and the other to the grey and red wire at the compressor (with the compressor and the relay both disconnected). Your reading here should be 0.5 ohms or less. If you have under 1.0 ohms you're ok but specs are 0. 5 or less.
If you have an auto ranging type ohm meter, be sure your reading in ohms and not kilo ohms or mega ohms.
If you find while performing the test from the air ride module to the air ride relay (dark blue and yellow wire) referenced as the trigger signal, incorrect and all fuses all checked o.k. then it is possible the air ride control module is defective. But, before condemning the module, there are a multitude of input signal;s to the module that would have to be checked.
WARNING: Make sure your tests are accurate. Good to check and re-check each test. Be confident of your results.
Inaccurate tests and inaccurate test results= unnecessary parts replacement. Results are large dollars spent when unneeded.

Electronic level control not working right in a 1999 cadillace deville, what can i do to fix it?


To begin with, check the "ride level" fuse and make sure that the ride level compressor does work, and you should be able to hear that the ride level compressor is working when the ride level system is leveling the vehicle.

The ride level system uses an air compressor and either an air type of shocks or a type of air billow to raise and lower the vehicle, there is an adjustment to set the ride height and it is located under the vehicle and there is a control lever or rod that should be connected between the rear axle and a switch that is mounted on the body of the vehicle, and there will be an adjustment slot in the control lever between the switch and the body, and that is how you would adjust the ride level height, but be sure that the vehicle can not drop any further down if someone is under the vehicle trying to adjust the ride height.

However, you might find that the control lever to the ride level has fallen off from the switch on the body or it has come loose from the rear axle, and it is just hanging there not operating the switch on the body that controls the the ride level compressor, or there might be a blown out air shock or billow, or you might find that an air line from the compressor is leaking and the ride level compressor will just run continuously until it blows out the fuse, and if that is the case you might also find out that the air compressor has burned out from running continuously.

Air suspension needs compressed air for the control of Air Springs (Air Spring is a cylinder like thing which goes up and down when air is pumped in and out of it). For pumping in and out the air, air compressor needs to be switched ON/OFF. Compressor relay connects and disconnects the compressor motor from the power supply ( battery). ----------------- air ride suspension compressor located under the air filter box . ---------------- the Air compressor clutch relay location
is fitted to the left hand inner wing (when viewed from the the driving seat).

the compresser is located on the left hand side of the car under the hood.
once you open the hood remove the air cleaner housing and windshield washer resivor.
there is a panel that you lift up under both of thoese that is where the compresser is located

  1. The air suspension uses a small, separate air compressor under the driver's side left fenderwell, with air lines running to the air bags. On the top of each air bag is a electrical valve. This is a relief valve that allows air to be exhausted when activated, and which senses the amount of air pressure within the air bag to keep both sides equal. These valves are operated via a leveling sensor that is attached to the body of the car and to the rear axle by a movable arm. When the rear of the car drops due to increased load, the arm is pushed up. When the arm is pushed up, it turns on the air compressor and fills the air bags to level the car. When the load is removed and the arm moves down, indicating that the back of the car has risen, the sensor opens the valve on the air bags and allows air to escape, lowering the car.
  2. If the back of the car is low, indicating that the air suspension is not working, and the air suspension light is on, check the fuse first. If the fuse is all right, check the air suspension switch in the trunk and make sure it is on. This switch is used when the car is in for service. Always turn off the switch before lifting the car, because the sensor will think the car is rising and keep the air bag valves open, ruining the rear air suspension.
  3. Turn the ignition key with the engine off. Listen for the compressor to come on while pushing down on the rear bumper. If it does not come on, test the switch terminals for power, using a circuit tester. If one terminal has power and the other does not, replace the switch. If there is power, turn the switch to the off position, raise the vehicle and place it on jack stands in the rear. Inspect the leveling switch on the axle, making sure it is not bent and is connected. Use an ohmmeter for this test. Pull the electrical connector off the switch. Loosen the arm of the switch from the axle. Test the switch with the ohmmeter by checking across both terminals while slowly moving the arm. There should be no continuity with the arm down. As the arm is raised, there should be continuity. If not, replace the switch. If there was continuity, connect the arm and the electrical connector.
  4. Put a floor jack under the axle and raise the axle to the point where it is just beginning to lift the car off the jack stand. Turn on the ignition. Turn the air suspension switch to the "on" position. Use the circuit tester to check for power at the leveling switch. If there is power, turn the air suspension switch to "off" and lower the car. Access the air compressor in the front, under the hood, and check the electrical connector for power. If there is power, check for a good ground. If both are good, replace the compressor. If the compressor works and the car does not rise in the back, replace the air bags.

take the pressure switch connector off and jump connector- if clutch engauges you either have bad low pressure switch or are low on freon.

Air ride not working


Is there power at the compressor? If not, check the level switch located at the rear of the vehicle (connects the rear axle to the body via a small arm that moves with body up/down motion)

Rear auto leveling mechanism does not seem to be working.


check the fuse in the power distribution box under the hood. if fuse is blown replace with fuse of same amperage. if after replacing fuse, the fuse blows again then you probably have a faulty air spring compressor.
