It all depends what hose the upper goes to the thermostat housing, the lower hose goes to the water pump housing and the hose near the cap/fill dumps into your over flow reservoir

SOURCE: 97 Cougar....Radiator not leaking....water pump

If your not low, and your not overheating, chances are that the level sensor is either dirty, or faulty. It's located in the coolant resevoir.

How to remove air lock in '97 somona 2.2 coolant system?

Oh yeah, there's help my friend. Take the lower radiator hose from the radiator only, hook a garden hose up to the lower hose and seal it with hose clamps on adaptors. The garden hose is 3/4 inch and measure the radiator hose for the right size adaptor. Turn the water on and just leave it to back flush for a while. After you're done there, disconnect both hoses to the heater core and back flush it also. Get it all out. Flush heater core the other way after back flushing it, that way you knock it all loose and out. And you are understood friend.

The engine got hot could it be the thermostat and where is it located also the water pump

Could be thermostat, follow the upper radiator hose from radiator to engine, where it hooks up at engine end, is where thermostat is at, remove small bolts at housing where hose clamps to, under that housing is where thermostat is at.Water pump, follow lower radiator hose from radiator to engine, where it hook up to, is where water pump is at.

How do i flush my radiator for a buick lesabre 97

You can purchase a flushing kit from Prestone, you'll have to install a tee in one of the heater hoses to connect a garden hose to it. Pour some radiator flush in and run the car for a bit. Then shut off the car and let it cool down. Connect the garden hose to the tee and remove the radiator cap and turn on the hose, until clear water is coming from the radiator. Turn off and disconnect it from the tee and replace the cap. Drain as much water from the radiator and refill the radiator and overflow bottle. Many oil change places can do it also. The have a machine to do it. Usually around $40-50.

Follow the upper radiator hose to where it hooks on the engine. The thermostat is located inside the housing that the hose hooks onto. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Proper method on coolant system flush

Best way is to buy a flush kit. It is an adaptor that you put in your heater hose and can hook up a garden hose to. You cut the hose and put this device permanently in the line. Remove the thermostat, don't put the new gasket in there yet just put the outlet pipe back on and bolt it down. Run the car when cold with your hose running for about 10 minutes with the radiator drain valve open on the bottom of your radiator and the cap loose, water should come out of the drain valve and the radiator cap. This will flush your engine adequately, why waste money on distilled water, save that for topping off your battery. Turn off your engine continue to allow water from your hose to flow as long as you are seeing any thing other than clear water flow until it flows clear. Turn off the hose, put the cap on the flush port you installed. the port stays under your hood and allows you to flush your engine as needed. Let the water drain through the drain valve. Put in a new thermostat, with a gasket this time. Refill with water and antifreeze as directed in your manual. You should be good to go.
