99 VW Golf car alram keeps going off

My car's alarm keeps randomly going off for no reason (i know its not cause someone hitting or whatever cause i sat and watched it after the first time it went off and it went off again with no one around). even if i unlock it then relock it will go off later. its been doing this for about two weeks now, and i don't know what started it.

Same deal with mine. i had all the wires repaired and replaced, temp. fix. it started again, right now my mechanic is replacing the door switch. if the car automatically locks when you get in the alarm sets and wont allow you to start your car. try starting the car with the drivers door open. this worked for me, but the repairs will run you anywhere from $400-1000. sorry

Sometimes on start up about 8 lights stay illuminated on dash & stop engine flashes along with alarm , if you hit the top of dash pod faults will go away , have had numerous VW experts look at it but only...

Sounds like bad wiring or soldering job on the printed circuit board. Chevy and Dodge were notorious for their clusters and lights going out also. Hitting the top of your dash will only make whatever is failing, fail quicker and could even cause it to short out and completely burn up the wires and instrument panel. You could try buying another panel from a junkyard and putting it in your car. It would tell you if the problem is in the wiring or in the cluster itself.

Is it thatcham immobiliser in VW golf s v 1.6 2001 y reg

thatcham alarms were only fitted by dealers as aftermarket items for 10%off insurance premiums discount although this discount was stopped soon after they found out that thatcham alarms were causing lots of trouble with cars being immobilised for no reason and found to be unfixable by VW dealers.....you only have the factory standard alarm, unless YOU have a certificate showing that one was fitted.(insurance companies ask this question so that if you have an accident and you said yes, they can kick your claim into touch.....believe me any excuse.....)

Didn't know my 93 vw golf had an alarm, now I had to disconnect the battery to shut if off.. what do I do to fix this?

I'm not sure if you have an aftermarket or factory alarm, but try this: hook up the battery and try unlocking/locking the door with the key. If you have a remote door lock, hit unlock/lock on that. I have come across a couple of cars this was all it took to stop the alarm, never tried with a VW though. Hope it works, good luck!

The alarm is on but doesn't seem to go off

most vw with factory alarms will only go off if the battery is unhooked and rehooked or if someone trys to slim jim your door open without the key. The alarms kinda **** but at least it goes off if someones trying to break in.

Alarm going off

These had a few alarm issues, check the operation of the rear windscreen washer and make sure it works ok, sometimes the water pipe comes off inside the tailgate lid and the water gets onto the microswitch on the tailgate locking mechanism and this causes the alarm to go off

the alarm itself could have an internal earth problem.... pull out fuse from alarm or disconnect alarm and see if fuse still blows

ALARM RANDOMLY GOES OFF!!

the factory fit alarm is not voltage sensing .The best advice is to go to VW garage and get them to read the alarm causes,(they can check the last 4).this will give you a good idea where the fault lies.ie door lock mechanism, interior monitor etc..You cannot start looking for problem until you know alarm cause..
