What is the part that the vent line runs to in the engine compartment and then on to the intake?

I believe you are talking about the purge solenoid or canister purge solenoid.

What is it when gas fumes comes through the vents


You probably have an exhaust leak up by the exhaust manifold or catalytic converter that is releasing fumes to the engine compartment which makes it's way into your "fresh air" intake for your climate control.

I smell exhaust fumes in the cabin. What could be causing this?


The most common cause is an exhaust leak in the engine compartment near the engine. The exhaust fumes are pulled into the passenger compartment thru the heater vents. Switching to Rec might cut off the intake of air from outside.

The exhaust inside the car would suggest the vents in question have fallen apart somewhere in the dash between the engine compartment and the interior allowing fumes to enter the cabin. Get that checked at a garage right away. Very dangerous to breath exhaust fumes.

Code P0441


an emissions system that consists of the fuel cap, fuel tank, carbon canister, canister purge valve, interconnecting lines and hoses. It basically collects the gas fumes from your gas tank and stores them in the charcoal canister located in the engine compartment. Later when the engine starts/is running, the fumes are drawn out of the canister and burned thus reducing pollution by burning the vapor that otherwise would be vented into the atmosphere.

The code could be tripped by any of the components listed above, or by the gas cap just being loose. There could also be a vacuum leak in the system.

Check engine light -- daewoo disgnostic trouble code p0442..what is it and is a major/minor problem --performed visual inspec. on fuel cap, evap hoses and canister..all ok..no sign of leak noticed when...


Okay no leaks so this means the vent valve is closing, how did you get valve to close? if there are no leaks and vent valve is closing and sealed when you smoke tested it then i would say to replace the purge valve, this is easy to change and not costly, just a dealer part or maybe you can find on the web, hope this helps.

Air condition will not blow out the vents does it run off vaccum lines


yes it gets its vacuum from the engine, the vacuum line goes through the firewall on the passenger side from a vacuum storage cannister that is connected by a hose to the engine intake manifold

this sounds like you have a bad fuel line (leaking) clean the engine compartment let dry then let the van run. follow all your fuel lines from the engine back and you will find the leak. you will have a fuel pressure line and a return line back to the tank

The EVAP leak detection generally concerns the fuel tank to carbon cannister plumbing. A little background. The EVAP or evaporative emission system is a control system to keep vapors from evaporation in the fuel tank from getting into the atmosphere. The fuel tank is not vented, but rather the vapors are piped to the carbon cannister (usually located behind the pass. side front wheel) where the charcoal element absorbs the vapor. This is actually a vapor "storage" device. Under certain engine operating conditions, the ECU activates the Cannister Purge Valve (N80) which opens and allows the engine vacuum to **** the fuel vapors back out of the carbon cannister. This purges the vapor, allowing the cannister to absorb more vapor. This evap system has been on vehicles since the '70s. As part of the OBDII standard effective for 1996 cars and newer, it was mandated that leaks in the systems must be detected and reported as a fault which will set the Check Engine Light (CEL). To detect leaks, the system is pressurized by a pump so that leaks can be detected by a lack of appropriate pressure in the system. I have a p0441 fault on my 2003 dodge neon. i changed the canister purge solenoid and the light went off for about a month and just came back on what could cause this?
