Suspect short in electrical wiring. If repairs have been performed recently check in those areas first. Remove fuse and connect meter. Have someone observe meter while harness near rear light fixtures are flexed. Check for wiring near exhaust. Check wiring at hatch if lights are installed in rear gate. Possible short in harness.

No joy start disconnecting cable connections see wiring diagram.

You must have a blown fuse. Did you test each fuse with a ohm meter? Keep in mind you must remove each fuse from the fuse block to test it. If you touch the meter leads to the two metal bits on top of the fuse without removing it from the circuit, you could get a false reading or damage your meter. Also, a blown fuse doesn't necessarily have to look charred and black inside, depending on where the element broke. Your vehicle manual should have a diagram showing what each fuse is for. This might save you the trouble of checking every fuse, and confirm the fuse was put back into the correct slot.

Blowing fuses is never an easy direct fix. Its rather a hunt needs some dedication. What I try and do is Figure out what is all on this 40 amp fuse, and one at a time remove something from the system and see if it blows. The key is knowing when it will blow for these tests to work. Keep removing what ever is on the system until it stops blowing a fuse. Then figure out how to single out items on that fuse. Whatever fuse it is the problem is on its path. Check all paths that go to items if no items are easily singles out. Replace as you find ,smash, green corrosion and shady connecters. Looks for heat by finding melted plastic connecters. These are clues. If you have a volt meter, then you will find the problem a whole lot easy, by figuring out what OHMS LAw is for whatever guage wire you are working with and a rough guess on length of known path. Using this you can find smashed and corroded wires quicker. As well as finding a short to ground and even short to powers in some cases. Good luck :)

Replace 15 amp fuse to a 30


NO,NO,NO ! Fuses are electrical protection for the cars wiring installing a higher amp-age fuse takes longer to blow so your wiring gets hotter and starts to melt the insulation and shorts to other wires eventually burning up the harness. With a amp meter test the circuit to see how much power is needed to keep the circuit going if over rated (15 amp circuit taking 20 amps) then install a cycling circuit breaker 10 amp this will blow and cool and blow again continually then with a magnetic amp meter (Gauss meter) you can locate your short the source voltage causes the amp meter to jump as the fault occurs when you pass it meter will stop working.

fuses that look good can be bad, due to
tiny cracks, use a meter to check the fuse.
or buy a fuse checker of flush with cash.
any DMM can measure any fuse.
the fuse in the passenger compartment , near driver left knee.
LHD car.
you can use a volt meter too, to check a blown fuse
keyon, both sides of fuses read 12v.
if not, the fuse is blow, or is blowing over and over due to the dead short in that line. that is it purpose to prevent a fire.

Battery drain


drain is hard to find it could be a short or a component is staying on. you need an amp meter and hook it up between your battery negative terminal and the negative battery cable.turn the key off and check how many amp is the drain make sure all the lights and doors are closed, dont crank the car with amp meter on it will burn the meter. take each fuse out at a time which ever fuse drops the amps down by pulling it out is causing the drain. find what that fuse is for. check that component and the wiring on it for any shorts.

which engine, wiring varies by Egnine G16, J20, H25? what?
a fuse blows to stop the fire from a shorted power feed.
the fuses have names and numbers. with that info.
i can tell you all paths that can short for that fuse.

what you do is pull all loads 1 by 1 on that shorted feed.
if still blows the harness is shorted (long hard inspections, or 15min work with my ammeter short finder (magnetic)

My mile meter will blank out for 5 to 10 seconds and that time the radio cuts off and the battery meter jumps to high, is that a fuse problem or something else


I would say it is something else. The most serious is the battery meter jumping to high. This means you have a short before the radio and instrument cluster. A grounding of the wire will pull all the power from the alternator in an attempt to feed the power demand of the short.
The short can be between the fuse and the underhood relays(which trip and break the circuit) or the short can be before the relay to the alternator.
There is a connector on the firewall where the hot (pos) cable comes from the battery post and joins a junction. This is where the charging system attaches to recharge the battery. If the wire from the alternator grounds there it will spike the battery meter. I can not say that the other things will short out exactly as your does from this fault, but it is something to look at.

you no doubt have a direct short in your wiring, or a bare hot wire is touching or rubbing a ground. check all wires that go to your meter. you don't say which meter it is. amp,water,oil,or battery.
