I have a 1995 Chrysler Cirrus LX and it won't shift above 2nd

I have a Chrysler Cirrus LX and it won't shift above 2nd or 3rd. It runs fine when it shifts from first to sec but that's it. 30 mph is the max it will go. We spent 2000 buck to have the trans replaced and the guy had the car for 2 years. When he gave it back after putting 3 trans in it the car still had the same problem. It would shift fine for a day or so then right back to the original issue. The same thing would happen every time he replaced a trans. My friend had the same car and it did the same thing. He never found out what the issue was. When you put it on a computer to check it, it comes back and tells you there's a problem with the trans. Does anyone know what is causing this problem and how to fix it? Please help if you can. Thanks for your time.

    How do I find the codes? Also how do I fix them? I forgot to mention that the car runs fine sometimes when its cold. After it warms up the problems starts. No check engine light comes on and the speedo works fine also. Not sure if this helps you make a more accurate decision on what it may be. Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it. Honestly I do.

    Another quick question you may be can help with. The timing belt went today and I'm not sure how to fix it. Do I need something to put it back in time? How do I do it? Thanks again

Sounds like your original problem was the TCM. Find out what codes are in the TCM, and fix them. You most likely have a bad output or input speed sensor, or a solenoid pack.

    If your timing belt went, and you are having trans issues, it may be time for another car. It is very possible that when the belt went you bent something in the motor, and it may be shot. If you have never done a timing belt, you will be in way over your head. It is a 4-5 hour job for a seasoned mechanic, and not really for the faint of heart. The trans will be the same way. You will need to get it hooked to a computer where they can drive the vehicle and see what is going on with the trans while in operation.

It means the cmputers are unable to communicate with each other or connected components. Needs to be diagnosed with a very expensive reader that usually only dealers ir very large shops have.

Sometimes it doesnt want to shift from 2nd to 3rd.but after it sits for awhile its fine.


while it sits the debri falls from the trans fluid filter. mthen it works OK till the filter gets clogged again. take pan off clean replace filter and use synthetic fluid.

Where is thermostat in a 1995 chrysler cirrus LX


A tee is located to the right hand side of the intake manifold, on top you should see the coolant system cap, its silver in color and is about 2-3 inches in diameter. This tee is the thermostat housing, it goes to your radiator and engine block, remove it from the block and you should see the thermostat. Remember when replacing the thermostat, the spring side goes into the block! 2.0L and 2.4L it is under where the upper rad hose hooks to the engine. 2.5L it is under where the lower rad hose hooks to the engine.

99 chrysler cirrus lxi won't shift out of 2nd, no speedometer


Had the same problem on my 1999 cirrus lxi. Replaced the output speed sensor on the tranny and topped off the tranny fluid... cleared the check engine light and the cirrus ran great. Caution...the output speed sensor reqires removal of the front left tie and plastic weatherproofing to replace. once you find it's locvation, the replacement is relatively easy.

you need to replace clutch pack for that gear can be ordered seperately from parts store or dealer if you want to save money call peach street auto recycling at 1800-365-2341 for a warrantied used one! also might be time for change trans filter and fluid filter could be slightly clogged but I lean towards clutch pack I replace these alot on Hondas
