SOURCE: code p 1446 solenoid valve malfunction in sentra 2005

I have the same problem with my 2005 sentra. It is the vent control valve. The only cheap way to fix this would be to take it off and spray wd-40 and see if it works. You could also get the part form a junk yard. Nissanpartsdirect also has it. I beleive it is officially called the vapor canister.

SOURCE: Vent Control Valve.

In your charcoal box in the engine bay by the fire wall. You may be able to free it up the frozen valve by tapping it and hitting it with some wd-40.

SOURCE: when you put gas in it wont take it .blows it back

Just fixed my wife's 2005 Nissan sentra for the same problem, the service engine light was on and when I tried to put gas in the tank it would gurgle up on me and come out. After doing a little research on line (I love the web) and talking to the dealership, it ended up being the vent control valve. Newer model cars have pressurized gas tank, this valve closes when you start the car to pressurize the system and opens when you shut it off to vent the system, and if stuck closed the system will not vent wile pumping gas causing it to come back up the pipe. Nissan has had many problems with this valve and since have redesigned it.
The valve is located just to the rear of the driver's side back tire, you will have to remove the plastic shield to get at it and if you remove the back tire, it makes the job easier. It looks like a tube with an electrical connection on the side at the top and the hose from the gas tank on the same side at the bottom. It is attached to a black box I thank they call it the carbon box. Remove the valve by turning it counterclockwise and pull it out. Remove the electrical connection then the hoes that leads to the gas tank. If you look inside the holes you will see a plunger and a spring, if the plunger is down and seated it means it is stuck closed. If you are not sure you can do what I did and try to plow thru it if you cant you have your answer it's closed. I had to go to the dealer for the part and they soaked me for $152.00 but better that then paying them to do this simple job. To reinstall the new unit just reverse the directions. Once I had, the part out I disconnected the battery in the hopes it would reset the check engine light and after the job was done, I reconnected the battery and everything was fine. I think it is a simple job and if I can do it anyone can, good luck.

Yes, the defect is clearly in the valve: as the error says it's non responsive and stuck partially open. It's not a big problem, the engine will just run a little rough and use more fuel.
To fix that just replace the valve and check all the pipes.

Error codes P0442 & P0446 Likely fixes?

A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
  • A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
  • A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
  • A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
  • Other small leak in EVAP system
  • Faulty vent o-ring seal
Possible Solutions With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses

A code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Possible Solutions With a P0446 OBD-II trouble code, here are some things to try:
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
  • Replace PCM

Since you are getting both of these codes the most likely problem will be a faulty Vent Valve.

Check engine light initially showed code for speed sensor, changed that & light came back on,now shows code 440 & 600,tried tightening gas cap & still comes on

Unfortunately the P0440 code could be a comdination of about 4 different possibilities within the EVAP System:

1. Fuel Cap loose or Not holding proper pressure causeing a leak in the EVAP System
2. EVAP Canister Purge Volume Control Valve
3. EVAP Canister Purge Control Valve
4. EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve

The Vent Control Valves are common for going bad and causing leaks in the EVAP System.

Now, the P0600 Code - ECM recieving incorrect voltage from A/T control Unit Continuously.

Unfortunately, my suggestion to you would be to take the vehicle to your local Nissan Dealer where they have the appropriate scan tools to monitor the EVAP System and the Transmission control System.

Hope this helps...
