I am so sorry, I did not give make of vehicle. 2004 S40 Volvo. Incorrect fuel reading. Show different levels of fuel. Needle goes back and forth. Can you help?


Hi James,
The most likely cause is the fuel sending unit. When they go bad, you start getting erratic readings. Hope that helps.

If the P0171 is combined with the P0174 code, it's very likely that the problem is caused by an intake leak. If there are no intake leaks, the next step is to replaced the air filter and clean the air flow meter. If the problem persist the front oxygen (O2) sensor may need to be replaced.
The P0171 code could also be caused may be caused by one or more of the following: debris on MAF sensor causing an incorrect reading, improper oil level, low or high fuel pressure or Engine Control Temperature (ECT) Sensor reading inaccurate.

The check engine light came on & I went to autozone & they said the code was P0441 - EVAP emission control system purge flow fault, the woman said she had never seen that & that I should call...


This code does cause any dangerous condition, read what it means below plus possiable solutions.

P0441 - Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow


Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible a noticeable fuel odor caused by the release of fuel vapors Possible causes - Missing Fuel cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
- Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve
- Leak is in vacuum line between intake manifold and purge control valve. Possible solution - Retight or replaced fuel tank filler cap
- Replaced damage or leaking EVAP canister

I have a 04 expedition the engine light came on the code read po171 and po174 it die out when I'm at a red light but cranks back up missing bad when it warms up

I installed an after market fuel gage,and now it reads opposite.(when it is full it reads mt and when mt reads full)


I assume it has bee installed incorrectly and the wiring is back to front......what brand is it, and what model is the aqftermarket fuel gauge.....and what vehicle is it to assist you in the correct wiring
