Question about 1995 Nissan Maxima

95 nissan maxima

I have the same problem. I was starting to think my car was possessed. When I turn the key everything turns on except the motor. I hear the fuel pump but thats it. Could it be something like a bigger battery possibly? I just purchased this vehicle but if I keep having these problems, its GONE!

the selenoid is attached to the starter as one. I have pulled out the entire thing and had it checked, it fine and working.

Ok, I tested everything like I should and came up with the same result. I finally decided to go and order a new electrical switch by itself and place it in the back of the cylinder. Real easy fix. Just unscrew the 2 screws, it comes right off and put the new one in. Result........AWESOME!!! The car starts with no problem at all. The switch cost me $25 and all I had to do was remove the 4 screws under the steering wheel column and unscrew those 2 screws at the back of the key switch cylinder. I just can't believe thats all it took. So if you have problems like mine. Don't purchase the switch and cylinder together because the cost is over $130. Go to Autozone or Oreilly's and just get the electrical switch and your all done.

Thanks for all the suggestions and hopefully this will help all of those out there having the same problem. Good luck fellow Nissan Maxima owners.

O.K. so the small wire on solenoid attached to starter or one of the small ones, should get 12 volts to it only when you turn key to start. The big one should have 12 volts all the time.

Starter solenoid should be down below on passenger side, perhaps its faulty. Car in neutral, clutch all the way in on standard? What transmission, auto or standard?

Check power and ground to starter motor with circuit loaded (ie. attempting to start) If these are good then replace starter motor.
