Most likely an actuation rod has become unhooked inside the door. If possible to get a slim jim tool to unlatch door, then remove inner panel to find problem.

I have a jeep Cherokee 2001 my door driver side won't lock need help or advise but inside says its lock but I open it from outside the door still opens.

sounds like the actuator inside the door, has come loose from the locking mechanism. You may need to remove the inner panel of the door and observe the motions as you attempt to lock the door.

Door won't open on the outside or inside after using a slim jim

you probably pulled the rod off of the handle lever. once you get into the truck. take off your inner door panel and re connect those rods. there should be 3 screws on the bottom of the inner door panel. remove those and then lift the panel up and out.

if you remove the cover that is behind the inside door handle and look you may see the arm that connects to the handle.if its connected then you will have to remove the inner door panel,if its come off the handle and you get a hold of it you can pull on it and the door should open.you have to be patient to remove the door panel with the door closed.you will need to remove some screws to loosen the panel from the steel door inner panel.(arm rest, cover behind the handle).pop up the power door/window switch control and remove the plug attached.pull out the inner door panel to unhook the clips around the outside edge of the panel, you will have to move the seat to get better access to some, then remove the panel and reach into the inner door and move the unlock arm to open the door.you move have clips that are broken that allowed the arms to come off that need replacing to fix the problem.

The doorlock-actuator can be accessed with the inner door panel removed. It is difficult to get to with the seat in the way, but backing the seat all the way to the rear will help.Once you get the panel off, the actuator can be removed. I would check the electrical connection to that solinoid before I removed it, as it may be a simle as that in that model.

other than drilling out the two studs on the handle ,the only way is to remove the inner door panel and open it from inside the door. You can see the actuator once the panel is removed

You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. If needed, you can pull back the weather seal (can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to access everything inside the door

it sounds like the lock actuator inside the door has frozen. if that is the case, you will have to remove the inner door panel partially or fully to gain access to the actuator.if you press down on the door lock knob, does it move down.if not I would definitely suspect a failed actuator.
