Can i put the supercharger off a 3.8 0n a 3.1 pontiac grand prix se?

Hi Jake, Your question is not very clear. If you're talking about removing a supercharger from an engine designed for a supercharger and fitting it to a smaller engine designed to operate with a supercharger, you'll need to check pressures and computer controls. If you're asking about fitting it to an engine not designed to be supercharged, it would require a full rebuild, using parts designed for the job. I say it is not a good idea, as the engine will probably blow. Both superchargers and turbochargers are air compressors which force air into the combustion chamber under pressure, meaning the engines have especially designed parts. Regards John

I own a 2004 Nissan Patrol, petrol.4.8 lit. I am looking at fitting the Nismo electronic supercharger. Can you please advise on the specific model and also what the expected kW/hp gain would be. How...

The experts here would be the people who sell and fit supercharges to engines . While superchargers give power at low rpms they use a lot of engine power to drive so the power gain is not as significant as a turbo which uses exhaust gasses to get the power and not the engine. Turbos are now capable of producing low end torque early. If the supercharger is electric driven then it will need a big alternator to drive it and again that is reduced engine power. Do a lot of research as there is big money involved to get the extra power.

hi.
you should not be doing it any harm short term.
your can certainly will not have the power it had, and using premium fuel will not even come close to giving the sort of boost a supercharger will.

without the supercharger, the engine itself will usally be running at a lower compression in the cylinder, resulting in less power that you would get out of the standard engine.
if you are happy using the car as it is and it has enough power for your needs, then it may be worth you asking in an autoshop about removing the supercharger unit completely. depending on the exact configuration it may be worth removing it and selling the supercharger on its own.

it certainly will not do the supercharger itself any good if it is not used, it will probably seize up eventually, but you should not do the engine any harm. it would an idea to get the ignition control unit repogrammed, to ensure that the emissions limits are still met though

How can i relocate the knock senser without pulling the suppercharger and intake the scanner sayes i have a bad senser. i am lossing power when accelerating.i have allready replaced plus cap distibutor...

you cant. since your truck is supercharged, you need to replace it. it does not need to be replaced on non supercharged models, but it does on the supercharged ones. failure of the knock sensor in supercharged truck puts the supercharger in "fail safe mode"which results in the supercharger not working as designed.

can you bolt it up, most probably , will it last, no. the electronics won't match up, and the internals on both the engines are not the same, just asking to blow a good engine

Can you take off the supercharger from a 1998 buick regal and replace it with a metal plate so its not used. Will the car run without the supercharger?

The supercharger is how air gets into the engine.
Two rotors force the air into the cylinder heads creating more pressure thus more horsepower.

Your engine is designed to run with the parts that are on it. If you change the intake manifold to one on a 3800 without a supercharger you will get into a situation where you will have to change the injectors and add other parts to make it run correctly. Not to mention the reprogramming issue.

If the supercharger is the problem try these people.

I bought a s/c from them and it works better than the original.

I want to know is it necessary to havena

yes. it is part of the intake system and the computer relies on the air that is being forced into it. the 3.8 is a great engine and you have a one of a kind. or one of few. but the engine is built with less compression to accommodate the supercharger. to run without it in the long run will cause major problems.

CAN YOU REPLACE A 3.8 WITHOUT THE SUPERCHARGER IN A 96 RIVIERA THAT HAD ONE IN IT IN THE BEGINNING

THE ENGINE WILL BOLT RIGHT UP. YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE THE ELECTRONICS, SENSORS, ECM PROGRAM, ETC. WHY NOT PUT THE SUPERCHARGER ON THE NEW ENGINE? IT SHOULD BOLT UP. MORE POWER IS BETTER AND YOUR MILEAGE SHOULD BE AROUND 30MPG.
