Question about Buick LaCrosse
Engine was in idle for several minutes the reduced engine power message appeared the engine was hot. As long as I kept moving the engine did not overheat however at every light it proceeded to go back up to hot.

THis problem is caused for
Lost of correlation between ACELERATOR PEDAL POSITION
AND THROTTLE ACTUATOR MOTOR.
Because your car has no acelerator cable.
The morer probable is the Trhottle actuator motor come damaged. 90%. 10% the accelerator pedal position.
If you turn of the car it will work OK> for a few time.
But the Service engine soon. will stay on.
Yuo can go to at ANy ADVANCE AUTOPART, AUTOZONE or NAPA AUTOPART. They make a diagnostic free.
If not. I recomend get the car scanned for see exactly why the light come on. and make the right repair procedure.
OK>> I hope this help on your question...
Thank you for use fixya.

Again the problem is the plug on the throttle control. One or more of the wires are not making good contact or broken. If the car is running bad: With the car in park and running, lift the hood and wiggle the plug and you should notice a difference in the idle. Find the broken wire or the bad connection and replace it.

SOURCE: reduced engine power on
The traction control uses the speed sensor in the transmission and the wheel speed sensors to determine wheel spin. If a wheel spins braking is applied to it so that the power can be transferred to the other wheels. At some point the ECU detected a gross disagreement between the sensors and so as a precaution has entered into a limp home mode. On some systems if the fault is in error it can be cleared by putting the car into drive and moving forward a meter, putting in reverse and going a back a meter and doing this three times. If one or other of the sensors are faulty this process will not allow the error to be cleared. You need to check or have checked the error codes and the speed sensors.

Limited throttle mode--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
Throttle default mode--The control module will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
Forced idle mode--The control module will perform the following actions:
Limit engine speed to idle by positioning throttle position, or by controlling fuel and spark if throttle is turned off.
Ignore accelerator pedal input.
Engine shutdown mode--The control module will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.
You need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes , probably a accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor or TPS - throttle position sensor !
