SOURCE: what are the service interval for items on the 2006 toyota prado

For oil and filter - every 3 -5,000 miles. rotate tires at same interval. air filter is on condition, so check it at oil change and clean it until it needs replacement. trans. fluid is on condition along with filter or I believe 60k miles. Belts and hoses are every 3 years or based on condition. Get a maintenance guide from an auto parts store or go to the dealer for an owner's manual, which will have all of this information.

My Hyundai matrix 1.6 auto has developed a noisy diff - can one foit a new diff or is it a replacement gear box required?

It's a transverse engine, so the diff will be integral with the gearbox. Have you checked the gear oil level? If it's truly gone, you could pick one up on ebay for £150/180.

I have a 97 vzj95 prado 3.4lt v6 Recently the front diff seized and I've replaced it but now on turns while accelerating I'm hearing a clunk from the rear diff... Is this a wind up issue? Thanks

Yes it is a wind up of the axles and not the drive shafts. Your car has a limited slip diff and it is locking up.
When you are accelerating the diff locks up and your wheels are rotating at different rates while turning. This causes the axles to twist until the pressure causes the Limited Slip Diff to slip.
My guess would be that someone has changed the diff oil with non Limited Slip Diff oil.

Toyota prado idling speed

Yes, it can be completely normal, engine idling RPM's will have various factors that affect them such as temperature, altitude, oil level. In all cars the RPM's will change when the compressor for the AC is activated.

Why is the dealer useless?

Has the dealer even suggested the diff oil be changed?

The first item I would look at is the diff oil. Have it changed and at the same time have the diff unit checked for leaks. You must use the correct spec product as specified by Toyota and you should use the best available. The best diff oils in the grade you will require are expensive so do not skimp on the oil quality and use a cheap one.

II think I would try some Motorcraft XL-3 Friction Modifier. That is what Ford uses to fix the same problem in their Limited Slip differentials. You can find it online or at any parts house that carries Motorcraft.
