Question about 1997 Chrysler Town & Country

1 Answer

My 1997 town and country stalls or dies. Is this a bad throttle sensor? or something else? It has the 3.3 motor and 226,000 miles. Some days its fine. Other days while driving it will try to die. I pump the throttle and it will go. Then it will do it again. I will be at a stop and it will just die. If I keep the rpm,s up to about 1000 it won,t die, but will **** like it died. I pump the gas and it will go if I catch it quick enough. Not sure if it is the computer or a sensor going bad.

SOURCE: 2002 Buick Rendzvous Won,t idle under 1000 rpm

This could be the TPS, or Throttle Position Sensor. Generally when there is an idle problem, this is the first thing to look at. Hope this helps

Try output sensor for the transmission (it is similar to a vehicle speed sensor), these can control the speedo and shifting. Not sure if it does anything to the rpm guage, but very possible.

1997 town & country stalls intermittently. ... my chrysler town & country lxi dashboard cluster ligths go out

I had the same problem in the past with the lights. I repaired it by removing the the dash panel and re-soldering the pins where the harness plugs into. I am currently having the stall issue. in my research it seems to be the crank shaft sensor. I was told that the crank shaft sensor and the cam sensor work together and have decided to change them both along with the gas filter.

you need to put a scanner on it and see what code comes up.

Have you had the fuel injection and throttle body cleaned yet? Sounds like a bad IAC motor, or dirty injectors. What motor is in it? Did you use the factory plugs and wires? If not, that is the first thing you need to do.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Stalls out, engine quits running

since its a 1997 your jeep has EFI, electronic fuel injection. The most probable reason for your troubles would be the injectors or a problem with the computer controling them, not allowing enough gas to be pushed into the cylinder causing stalling or lack of power, also too much gas iin the cylinder can lead to back firing and stalling. This would also explain the reason it takes so long to start back up some times, all the excess gas in the cylinder is flooding the motor and u have to wait till the gas disipates till the engine will turn over.
