Sounds like a blown Head Gasket or cracked Engine Block.

Are you sure you put in the required amount? Sometimes 1 quart can make a difference. No offence intended cause in my early years , I won't admit anything. Only thing I can think of is all yhe oil hasn't drained down yet or the clean oil is hard to see. when you pull the dipstick out, Lay the tip on a paper towel or on your hand to transfer the oil and tell where it is. Good Luck and you are not going crazy, ot's there.

Condensation usually builds up due to short runs,you go to point a from point b and then back to point a in less than 30 min. and the oil just gets warmed,not enough to get rid of condensation.

Everyone always jumps to head gaskets. There are plenty of MINOR things that can be looked at first.
The Volvo 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 Inline 5 Cylinder dipstick tube is known to develop a large amount of condensationin winter months and stop and go driving. What you see on your dip stick is possibly just condensation. Take off your oil cap and look under the cap and inside the valve cover. Is there any thick foamy oatmeal like substance or noticeable amounts of water? If your oil was saturated with coolant, you would be able to see it up there too. Check your coolant for oil. Volvo coolant is typically brown to orange, however make sure there is no sludge. Start the car with the cap off and keep an eye out for alot of bubbles. A large amount of bubbles is a sign of a bad head gasket. A couple here and there is just air in your cooling system.
Coolant, Transmission fluid, and Oil have several places they can mix. If you have a turbocharged Volvo, the seals in the turbo can go bad and cause a mix of oil and coolant. Your transmission cooler is also in your radiator, and if it cracks your transmission fluid and coolant can mix. I believe turbo models have an oil cooler built into the radiator as well.
Overall if your car sounds fine, you dont see oatmeal, your not using coolant and oil in excessive amounts, dont have white smoke, and your turbo isnt whining you probably just have condensation in your dip stick. If you are overly concerned you can send a sample of your oil to a lab and have it tested for traces of coolant. Headgaskets rarely fail on Volvo's, even the old ones....I have seen many that have gone to replace them have not found a failed gasket and end up finding a bad transmission cooler or a bad turbo.

How do I check auto trans fluid


There's usually a dipstick similar to the oil dipstick. It's not as easy to find and down on the transaxle somewhere. Your user manual will tell you when to check it.
Unlike engine oil, transmission fluid often needs to be checked after the vehicles warms up, after the shift lever has been shifted through all the gears (you don't necessarily have to go anywhere) and while the engine is running with the shift lever in park.
But sometimes the instructions are different. Check your manual. It probably also shows a drawing of the engine showing where the dipstick is located.

Check the engine's oil dipstick. Brown, bubbly oil or any inconsistencies or traces of water on the dipstick can be symptoms of a severe head gasket failure. Have the car's engine checked right away. god bless!

Radiator


When this happens there are several causes. If this is engine oil, a head gasket is probably leaking. Worst would be cracked motor block.
There is also transmission fluid in the Radiator if you have a Water cooled Automatic transmission. The Radiator has 2 compartments and can sometime fail internally. Check transmission dipstick for signs of water beads.
There are sealing additives to help with this problem. They may help temporarily, but remember that oil pressure can exceed 60PSI and that water may backflow and mix and rust internal motor parts.
A compression test may help predict which head gasket is the problem so you do not have to remove both heads to replace a head gasket.

Water getting into oil


If its just condensation in the oil cap or dipstick, to some degree its normal. However if you have water in the oil and its very creamy in texture, its probably a head gasket leak, or cracked head. Its important to get it repaired soon, or total engine bearing failure will result.

  1. REMOVE RH ENGINE UNDER COVER
  2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
  3. REMOVE GENERATOR (See page CH-8)

  1. REMOVE WATER INLET PIPE
(a) Disconnect the following hoses: 91329748


(1) Water inlet hose (2) Heater inlet hose (3) Water bypass hose 91329749


(b) Remove the bolt, water inlet pipe and 0-ring.
  1. REMOVE OIL DIPSTICK GUIDE AND GENERATOR ADJUSTING BAR
(a) Remove the oil dipstick. (b) Remove the mounting bolt of the dipstick guide clamp and generator adjusting bar. 91329750


(c) Pull out the dipstick guide. Plug the guide installation hole of the oil pump. (d) Remove the 0-ring from the dipstick guide. 91329751

    • Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and water pump.

Car was overheating due to rust on the radiator, or maybe the thermostat, and as a temp fix till i could buy the new radiator was told to flush out the radiator i did this and took it to test it to see if...


More than likely it did, if you can check the Engine Oil Dipstick see if there are any signs of water in the oil, when an engine is overheated the Head gaskets get burned and the water starts to go into the engine where the oil runs. Good Luck.

You are probably correct -- it's a blown head gasket.
