Question about 2003 Nissan Maxima

Bent valve I drove my 2003 Nissan Maxima 6 speed manual when it needed camshaft positioning sensors, i replaced the sensors but its still making a loud noise in the engine, do you think i bent the valves and how much would that cost to fix?

    why do u think the valves are bent, if they were the engine miost likely would not run, did u have the timing belt off? why not try live chat, cheaper than even 15 minutes at the dealer.

No chaging the sensors want bend the valves.Get camshaft and lifters checked they could be making the noise if worn.

That will not usualy bend a valve.Best to let locale shop diag noise.Should be about 100 to diag.

You need to have a live data scanner hooked up to verify the powertrain control module (PCM) is actually receiving the signals from the CMP sensors you replaced, there is no more guessing here and no quick answers, it is a possibility the wiring harness and connectors to the sensors is defective, the wiring should always be replaced whenever the sensors are replaced on this engine ALWAYS, as they are frequently the problem and not the sensors themselves. But due to the difficulty of replacing the CMP's they both are replaced as a unit repair. Also it may be helpful for you to read the info at the link below. Camshaft position sensor is faulty or your ignition timing is too far advanced. Adjust the timing to specifications, if the camshaft position sensor replacement doesn't fix it.

Who replaced those parts & why,no testing?

If the thermostat is 6 or 8 years old, you just
replace them on all your cars

No that would not affect temperature in any significant way. the engine in most cases just won't run or will be hard starting.

MAKE SURE THE ENGINE OIL IS CLEAN AND CHANGED AT PROPER INTERVALS
P0011 NISSAN - Intake Valve Timing Control Performance Bank 1

Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible engine lack/loss of power
- Posssible engine rough idle
Possible causes - Harness or connectors
- Intake valve timing control solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted
- Intake valve timing control solenoid valve may be faulty
- Crankshaft position sensor (POS) may be faulty
- Camshaft position sensor
Tech notes Since the Intake valve timing control solenoid valve uses oil flow to control timing, dirty oil can cause the valve to stuck open or close. Before replacing the valve, change engine oil and filter and reset engine code. When is the code detected? When there is a gap between angle of target and phase-control angle degree, the valve will stop working and the ECM will trigger the P0011 code. P0011 NISSAN Description This mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating angle of the intake valve.

The ECM receives signals such as crankshaft position, camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant temperature. Then, the ECM sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the intake valve timing control solenoid valve depending on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake valve to increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in high-speed range.

The intake valve timing control solenoid valve changes the oil amount and direction of flow through intake valve timing control unit or stops oil flow. The longer pulse width advances valve angle. The shorter pulse width retards valve angle. When ON and OFF pulse widths become equal, the solenoid valve stops oil pressure flow to fix the intake valve angle at the control position.
MAKE SURE YOUR OIL IS CLEAN AND CHANGED AT PROPER INTERVALS.

P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction. Possible causes - Harness or connectors (The sensor circuit is open or shorted)

I need to find the camshaft position sensor on my 2003 nissan murano


Camshaft Position Sensors are located on the cylinder head according to the following: Camshaft, Bearings & Lifters Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
  2. Remove the front suspension member, transaxle and transfer case (if equipped) from the engine.
  3. Mount the engine in a suitable engine stand.
  4. Remove the timing chains and rear timing chain case.
  5. Remove the camshaft position sensors from the cylinder heads.
  6. Remove the intake valve timing control solenoid valves. NOTE: Mark the camshafts, camshaft brackets, and bolts so they are placed in the original locations during installation.
  7. Loosen the camshaft bracket bolts in several steps using the order shown.
  8. Remove the intake and exhaust camshaft brackets and the camshafts. Camshaft bracket bolt removal sequence nissan-03-35-4624.gif

  9. Remove the valve lifters and the secondary timing chain tensioner with stopper pin attached if necessary.
NOTE: Stopper pin was installed when the secondary timing chain was removed.
To Install:
NOTE: Clean sealant from front camshaft bracket, bolts and bolt holes.
  1. Turn the crankshaft until No.1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke. The crankshaft key should line up with the right bank center line as shown. Crankshaft keyway position nissan-03-35-4625.gif

  2. If removed, install the secondary timing chain tensioners and valve lifters in their original positions. NOTE: The intake camshaft has a drill mark on the edge of the sprocket mounting flange.
  3. Position the camshafts on the cylinder heads with the dowel pins as shown. Camshaft dowel pin positions nissan-03-35-4626.gif

  4. Apply silicone sealant to the front (No. 1) camshaft bracket as shown. Apply silicone sealant to the front (No. 1) camshaft bracket nissan-03-35-4627.gif

  5. Install and tighten the camshaft brackets using the following steps in the sequence shown;
    • Step 1 (bolts 7 - 10) : 1 ft-lb (2 Nm)
    • Step 2 (bolts 1 - 6) : 1 ft-lb (2 Nm)
    • Step 3 (bolts 1 - 10): 4 ft-lbs (5.9 Nm)
    • Step 4 (bolts 1 - 6) : 8 ft-lbs (10.4 Nm)
    • Step 4 (bolts 7 - 10) : 7 ft-lbs (9.3 Nm)
  6. Wipe off excess sealant from bracket No. 1.
  7. Measure the difference between the front surfaces of camshaft bracket No. 1 and the cylinder head. The specification is -0.0055 to 0.0055 in (-0.14 to 0.14 mm). Replace the camshaft and camshaft bracket if out of specification. Measure the difference between the front surfaces of camshaft bracket No. 1 and the cylinder head nissan-03-35-4629.gif

  8. Install the IVT control solenoid valves with new gaskets.
  9. If removed, install the camshaft position sensor.
  10. Install the rear timing chain case and timing chains.
  11. Install the engine in the vehicle.

Crankshaft Position Sensor Error P0335 recurred after r&r


In the kit there are two sensor that look identical. The one for the crankshaft has a white paint mark on it near the bolt hole. Make sure that it is in the right location.

WHERE IS THE CAM POSITION SENSOR LOCATED ON A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA


WHEN YOU STAND ON THE FRONT OF THE CAR YOU ONE IS RIGHT BELOW OF THE INTAKE WHICH IS BANK 2 OR THE ONE CLOSE TO FIREWALL , BANK 1 ONE IS ON SAME SIDE NEXT TO THE RADIATOR BUT THEY BOTH ON THE CAM RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE, THE EASIEST WAY TO IDENTIFY THEM IS THAT THEIR CONNECTOR IS GREEN, ONCE YOU LOCATE THEM THE CLIP NEEDS TO BE PUSHED DOWN TOWARD THE SENSOR FOR THE CONNECTOR TO BE RELEASED, ONCE YOU REMOVE THE CONNECTOR THERE WILL BE ONLY A 10MM SCREW HOLDING THE SENSOR PULL IT OUT , THE SAME SETTING THE NEW ONE PUSH IT ALL THE WAY IN , THIGHT THE 10MM SCREW, CONNECT IT BACK AND YOU'RE DONE,BUT FOR THE ONE ON THE BACK SOMETIMES MIGHT BE NECESARY FOR YOU TO TAKE THE INTAKE OFF....HOPEFULLY IS NOT YOUR CASE....



Good luck!!! and if you need the crank for hard starting on hot/warm, it is located on the botton middle section on the transmission is the only cable that goes down to a small piece of metal and it is held by a 10mm screw only to protect the sensor, you will se the sensor once you remove that small about 6-8 inches piece of metal. Then you'll be able to unescrew the 10mm screw that holds the crank position sensor. when you pull it off you'll be able to see the fly wheel inside the transmission...
