2003 Land Rover Range Rover;SES light came on, had it scanned and came back w/code p1453. Can you tell me common symptoms of this code and what a fix may be?

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P1453 is a "Manufacturer Specific" code, which means that it is defined only by the manufacturer of the vehicle and does not exist in any standard lists of DTCs, such as the standard SAE J2012 listings.

DTC P1453 for a 2003 Land Rover Range Rover, is defined by the vehicle manufacturer as "DM-TL REFERENCE CURRENT TOO LARGE"

The possible causes listed by the manufacturer are"

> DM-TL Module

Please note that DM-TL is an acronym for "Diagnostic Module - Tank Leak". This is the module that performs the diagnostic testing on your evaporative emissions system.

So, basicly what is happening here, is that the system that was designed to test the system and warn you of an impending failure, is what is actually causing the system to fail.

Check the rear springs and be sure the coils are not broken. Both of them broke on my 99 A4, right at the bottom where the spring sits on the perch. It didn't cause problems in driving since the continuous part of the spring was seated, but the excess seated spring coil was snapped off. I've seen it on other A4s as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if your Jetta has a similar problem. Dismount the rear wheels and inspect the coil springs - if they're broken, it'll be evident. If they are, you can likely pick up another set from someone on eBay or at a reasonable price.
