Check the plugs to make sure they are ok.
Then i suggest getting some Carburetor cleaner and cleaning the inside of the Carburettor making sure the build up of old oil does not fall inside the carb but stuffing an old rag into the unit carefully not to damage the fans. Once you sprayed the Carb cleaner and removed the old build up of oil and gunk , remove the rag carefully and spray som carb cleaner into the unit . do not replace the pipework back on yet as you can get rid of excess in the carb without it going back into the pipes. .
Give it a few minutes and start the car up and Rev it up a few times . Replace the pipework , Put some fuel system cleaner additive into the tank and give it a good poking on a motorway.
This should clear the system and have a better power output.

It could be the fuel filter. Check fuel pressure and volume.

SOURCE: poor performance on up hill drive

This could be caused by a low fuel pressure or poor plugs/wires. Do a fuel pressure test, if low replace filter, if still low replace pump. Also replace spark plugs and wires if you have not done so. If check engine light is on you can bring vehicle to local parts store to have them retrive trouble code. Thanks

It may be the transmission is slipping under load. Check the transmission oil.If the oil is a dark colour and smells burnt
this is probably the problem.

My 01 Pontiac Montana is trying to overheat at high power

If your vehicle doesn't actually overheat, just getting hot, I think that's the normal behaviour for these cars. My 03 AWD behaves the same way. When driving uphill, especialy when towing, the temperature rises close to the red marking, but I have never experienced it overheating. I think that the temperature has to rise much over the normal driving temperature to activate the two electric fans.

LESS POWER WHEN DRIVING UPHILL

Could be a weak head gasket. White smoke is usually coolant burning.

The car uphill obvious weakness, engine power performance Descent

This is probably due to not cause prolonged oil changes, oil filter, air filter causing incomplete combustion of fuel, increased engine deposits and other issues.
Recommended oil, oil filters, each with about 5,000 km to be replaced once, air filter and oil filter every 10,000 km driving needs to be replaced, otherwise the air, fuel and oil impurities cause parts wear and clogging the oil, thus affecting the normal operation of the engine.
Use obd2 for automotive diagnostics , you can improve vehicle safety performance and driving more safer.
