Question about 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4WD

How do I turn off the interior lights 1998 Jeep Cherokee Limited?

I cant seem to shut off the interior lights in my jeep. The lights work fine and such, but I want to be able to open the doors to clean my jeep or air it out without the interior lights turning on. I have searched high and low for a solution. I cannot pull the fuse as it kills the overhead console as well. I cannot use those door springs as they are for doorless jeep. I have not slider switch for it but the panel where it would be is there if it were installed in my jeep, which is was not. The space is still sealed. Tapping the posts down does not work either as the posts are far too strong for tape to keep them depressed.

Is there a way to easilly shut them off when I need to?

Thanks.

Nick

That would make sense. My current battery holds enough charge to keep lights on for about 15 mins max. I have a black and decker car starter. If I connect it to the battery and turn it to the on position it acts as if it is the cars battery. I guess i could do that untill the main battery is replaced. The problem from there is that I cannot remove the terminals from the battery. They wont budge even with the persuasive punch of a hammer. I can fully loosen the bolt and nut, but the clamp will not let go.

Thanks for your response. My terminals are relatively clean on the inside contact area, but badly corroded and badly banged up on the outer portions. I dont know how to replace them. Loosing the nuts and turning the terminals with a hammer the terminals actually let go and popped off by themselves. Anyway, today the jeep would not start at all and I assume the battery has fully died now, as even an emergency starter wont work as the battery is acting as a resister now.

Forget about shutting the lights off...not worth the effort. Besides, the amount of power is not that much, unless you have the doors open all day (why not just open the windows?) If you need to have the doors open all day, get a 2 amp battery charger and attach it while it's open. It will do a lot to keep your electrical system in top charge and you will be doing something good for it!

First of all, it your battery can't run the lights for more than 15min, you probably need a new one. Therefore you can get a bit more "animal" in removing the connections. Generally if you drive a screwdriver down into the parting line where the two sides of the terminal clamps meet is will separate them. They make a nice little jaw puller just for battery terminals but usually I just grab the end with a pair of water pump pliers and twist and they come off. When you get the new battery make sure you clean up the insides of those terminals (important).

1993 jeep grand cherokee limited no running lights/tail lights.

Id look at the headlight switch and do some voltage tests to see whats coming out of there. Pay close attention to any wires which look like someone was in there already.People can mess stuff up faster and better than the vehicle can by itself!

As you are turning the tailgate is flexing.
If you adjust the striker to get the tailgate to close tighter, it should fix your problem.
