Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes. Reconnect after and the code will clear. However if the problem persists, the code will come back with in 20 miles or 30 minutes.
Hi, The service light is indicating there is a fault code either in the ECM or BCM system. The only way in which this can be switched off is to have these codes checked and cleared in these to control unit with a diagnostic tool.
The cap might need a pressure check. Just because it stays on and tight doesn't mean it is functioning properly. It must meet EPA standards to function properly. Your cap is special part of your emission system and if it is not working properly you will need to replace it and have the light reset. If you owed a code reader it would tell you the same. Auto zone does do free code reading. The check engine light usually is not a big problem,but... I will leave it at that.
