I had the Sam problem on a different vehicle, however I believe that there is a standard for these fault codes.
It means that the fuel mixture on tick over is too rich. Still confused, I was, however after considerable searching it turns out that it normally refers to the lambada sensor in the exhaust. Unfortunately I had two one before and one after the cat. Changed both and all returned to normal

This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code.... Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 has detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1

2002 ford windstar engine lean bank 1 and lean bank 2

Google your codes & then diagnose the
system & items related to the codes

Type: OBD Code PO 171 --or whatever the codes are

If you have Oxygen Sensor Codes, it is most likely the upstream sensors have failed, because you did not know they get replaced as preventative maintenance at 100,000 or when they fail, if that is how you take car of your vehicles

PO 171 and PO 174

You did not list a vehicle, so here are the generic codes.
Code 171 is system lean bank one and code 174 is system lean bank two.
The computer is getting a signal from the O2 sensors saying the fuel system is too lean, and the computer can not make it rich.
Possible causes are low fuel pressure, vac leaks, EGR valve problems, and so on.

Error codes po 134 po 153 po 154 po 155 po 171 po 174

PO 134 = 02 SENSOR CIRCUIT NO ACTIVITY DETECTED (BANK 1 SENSOR1)
PO 153 =02 SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 1)
PO 154 =02 SENSOR CIRCUIT NO ACTIVITY DETECTED (BANK 2 SENSOR 1)
PO 155= 02 SENSOR HEATER CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 1)
PO 171= SYSTEM TOO LEAN (BANK 1)
PO 174= SYSTEM TOO LEAN (BANK 2)
I WOULD SAY YOU HAVE FAULTY OXYGEN SENSORS CAUSING THE ENGINE TO RUN TOO LEAN REPLACE THEM AND YOU SHOULD BE BACK IN BUISNESS

Code 171 and engine light is on

--BANK 1 = DTCs P0171 (lean) and P0172 (rich)

-Check intake air system for leaks, obstructions and damage.
-Check air cleaner element, air cleaner housing for blockage.
-Verify integrity of the PCV system.
-Check for vacuum leaks.

I would try cleaning the Mass Airflow Sensor first. A dirty Mass Airflow Sensor is a common problem for triggering PO 171 & 174 codes.

Good luck and keep me posted.

Po171 error code

P0171 means the system is lean on cylinder bank number one, with just the one code you could replace the bank one upstream O2 sensor and that will most likely cure the problem.

Check engine light on computer codes 171 174 171-HEGO sensor unable of snitch cylinder bank #1 fuel system at adaptive limit (1990 on) code 174 hego sensor snitching too slow, cylinder bank #1 (1990)

switch, we run off snitches. 171 174 banks 1 & 2 Lean. Most likely cause are Upper Intake Manifold Gaskets, failed seals. It's not 1990 on. It's 1996 and on OBD2.

Emission system codes

P0421 - Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0171 - Fuel System Too Lean - (Bank 1)
P0446 - Canister Close Valve Malfunction
P1191/P1193 - Limp Home Valve - Low RPM
Before replacing the catalytic converter (bank 1 next to the firewall, Bank 2 is near the radiator), you'll want to verify it is bad (most likely is it sinse you also have a 'lean' code for Bank 1 - probably clogged). This can also cause misfires and engine stumble (low RPM) that's probably where the 1191/1193 occurred. The final DTC, P0446 - Canister Close Valve Malfunction, could be the valve itself, or the wiring between it and the PCM. Check the connector & pins for any damage/corrosion.
