SOURCE: need to replace catalytic converter heat shield

I just took mine off to keep it from rattling, and bought a heat resistant header tape and placed the tape right over the Catalytic Converter on the body it self. Good luck and keep me posted if you have any more questions.

Accidentally dropped old headlight bulb while replacing it on my Honda 2002 CRV; can't find the old bulb. Is it dangerous to drive the car? The old bulb seems to have disappeared. Appreciate any answers...

One of two things will likely happen. Either it fell onto a cross member or something and will fall off while you drive, which should only result in road debris with a very minor chance that it could puncture a tire, or it will remain lost in the chasms of void space between a splash shield and a quarter panel, or similar. It's highly unlikely that it will result in any problems for your vehicle. You're ok to drive.

Lost a heatsheild over exhaust pipe is it necessary to replace

Not absolutely necessary just be very careful that the parts above it aren't getting too hot. The part is pretty inexpensive, you may want to replace it just to be safe. If it's the heat shield on the bottom be careful not to drive over any dry grass.

I hear a rattling noise when im idling and when i press on the gas. I was told it was the heat shield. I have a 2005 dodge neon. I wanted to know how the heat shield was held on. and can it be fixed?

There's alot of shields on those. I've seen the ones bolted to the floor area, along the exhaust tunnel, to rot out. Not the ones bolted to the cat converter, for the most part. Very hard to replace without removing the exhaust first. Then the bolts usually snap or round off, requiring grinding & drilling to replace the bolts. Pain in the **** for anyone. Even me, a Master Tech.

Knocks alot is it the motor or is there a bolt in the transmision bell

Look under the car to see if there is a loose heat shield around the exhaust pipe/catalytic converter area. Look right between the front seats (under the car). The front portion normally rusts away from the bolts holding it in place. This is like a ****-shell part - the top half or bottom half vibrate against the catalytic converter (sounds like knocking). Dealer can fix for about $100. You can fix for about $5.

Get a small piece of fiber glass fabric (auto store) and fold nicely and fit betwen the loose parts. Then get 3 pieces of 10 gauge copper about 18 inches long and wrap around the entire heat shield and twist tight. This will stop the vibration and last a long time in harsh environmental conditions. Do not just drive without the heat shield. You can melt your carpeting and start fires if you ever drive on grass.

Is it ok to drive on the motorway with your shield being a bit loose on the exhaust as i want to drive to somerset for the weekend? And from where i live its 139 miles away.

You can easily re-secure the shield using short self tapping screws and a drill.
You can drive with it loose but it may drive you crazy with the rattling!!! The lower half is not really important unless you drive in high dry grass, so if its too rotted to re-attach just cut it off!!
