Question about 2001 Ford Focus

1 Answer

01 ford focus

Changed spark plugs on an 01 ford focus because it kept misfiring, now something's wrong with maybe getting gas to it.. It got me a few miles then had to press gas pedal to the floor and it would only go like 10 mph and I was pressing it to the floor..

Where would I find the code at? And I was told it could be the fuel filter but wasn't sure. I put the stp bottle int the gas tank because it felt like bad gas or something.. But still would only go very slow..

Uhhh...fuel filter???? the rest of the maintenance in a 30, 60, or 90K service??? plugged injectors, weak fuel pump, secondary ignition breakdown, TP sensor?? you have alot of years on it. any codes stored in memory????

  • dan lincoln Apr 17, 2014

the codes are live data and stored memory. the parts stores are supplying code readers to customers quite often to help them get quick answers, and or clues to help them decide what they need. since your car has so much to test. the diagnosis is often simpler after getting the troublecode

  • dan lincoln Apr 17, 2014

since its part of a normal service, i thought you would have experienced it at least once since you've had the car. the more info you can provide leads to the better answers

SOURCE: I have a 2004 Ford focus and the gas pedal sticks.

What you want to do is isolate the problem. You want to disconnect the throttle cable with the engine off. Then move the part that the throttle cable was attached to by hand.
The part that remains on the engine should not bind up. If it binds you want to remove the airduct to the metal piece it attaches to.
Then move the engine part again and see if a flap is moving or binding. There is an electrical part called a TPS which attached to the shaft of the flap. It has 2 screws and 1 electric plug. If this part seems to be sticking it is bad. It should move smoothly and needs to be replaced.
If the engine part moves smoothly without the throttle cable attached, then all the binding is in the cable. You can try spraying WD40 into the old cable, but a new cable would be best.

Can you confirm cylinder two is getting spark ?
If it is, it could be something mechanical or the fuel injector.

2001 mercury grand marquis reading code p305 misfire, spark plugs and coils changed

If you changed the #5 Coil then the code was wrong

You get lots of wrong codes on a ford, as a bad coil
spikes the pcm when grounding out to fire the coils
secondary side

Try putting the old coil back & walking the new one to
another cylinder, may take many days & many miles of
driving to get it fix,but better than a shop guessing, because
they hate fords

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

For more troubleshooting, I suggest you to get the Following help link checked, its complete step by step procedure to inspect gear shift issues: -----

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

From start to end troubleshooting these problems I suggest you to check the help link below and follow its procedure: -----

Cylinder 4 misfire for a honda 2001 accord

I would try running Sea Foam16 oz can through the fuel tank as from experience with the same type problem, mine turned out to be bad gas and this corrected the problem in about 30 miles of driving. This is indicated as well as it was "idling funny" prior to your replacing those parts. I spent $200.00 in a similar situation only to find out it was bad gas.

I have a 2004 Ford Focus SE with 140,000 miles on it. I purchased the car with 79,250 miles on it 3 yrs ago. I have kept it up and have been pleased with the car to date. BUT, now the orange engine light...

with one hand on the throttle control and one "free" hand (PLEASE NOTE: there is a SERIOUS risk of getting shocked, be VERY careful)
with the car running, use a pair of insulated pliers, and one at a time pull a plug wire!
If the car tries to die, give it a little gas, and replace wire.
If there is "no change" then you have found the "dead" cylinder!
Hope this helps!!!
Good luck

Running out of gas causes the scum in the bottom of your gas tank to be fed to you engine. I replace the fuel filter every 30000 miles. You might have allowed scum into one of you injectors. Try replaceing that spark plug first.Dont run out of gas.
