Even if you can disconnect the linkage this will not fix your overall problem of no keys and you may mess up the vehicle. Go to the dmv with your plate number and drivers lisc they can get you a copy of the title. You can also get a print out of the vehicles ownership just by going to the state police explaining the situation. They should be able to confirm with the ford dealership u are the owner.

Yes, most likely. The linkage needs inspection from the shift lever to the transmission. You may have to check under the vehicle for disconnected linkage AND under the cover of the shift lever inside the truck.

1986 dodge caravan won't go into gear

Hi, There are two places to look. First, under the hood, (I'm sure you've already done some of this but for completeness sake...) Check to see if you can physically move the shifts on the transmission. If they will not move, disconnect the cables and try again. This is to determine whether the problem is in the tranny or the linkage. If the shifting occurs okay when disconnected the problem is either the cables or the column. Often, due to wear and tear the ignition switch can with the locks involved screw-up the linkage enough to cause problems like the one you're having. I will need to know more in order to make a more accurate assessment. e.g. Key in/out, running/off, I believe it is your linkage however. Thank You for asking FixYa.com, Come back if the problem persists

Hello
Try this. Disconnect the transmission linkage under the hood at the
colum. Now try moving the shift lever,if it functions normaly, check the
linkage from the colum to the transmission to see if it is bent or bound up. If you still can't shift with the linkage disconnected, the problem is
inside the colum. The easiest fix is to get a used colum.
If you have a cable. Disconnect it at the transmission first. if it still won't
shift, disconnect the cable at the colum. If it shifts, replace the cable.
If not. You're back to replacing the colum. In either case, block the wheels, and make sure the linkage connection at the transmission moves freely. Hope this helps. Good luck.

HOW TO CHANGE EXTERIOR DRIVER DOOR HANDLE

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then pull back the weather seal and disconnect the linkage to the outer handle and remove the bolts holding the handle onto the door

Transaxle will not engage gears. (Forward or reverse). Checked fluid, Ok. No codes. Linkage seems ok. Will set park pin. It was ok until I stopped at a store, turned it off, came out started it and it...

a few possibilites, like usual with out actually running through some of these test your self and narrowing it down heres some things:
first one damaged or faulty transmission computer (if knackerd you will not get a code)
second damaged transmission either input shaft or torque converter or differential
both of these will take either really good experienced tech or do it yourselfer or some money and patience these can be tested in transmission section of repair manual either haynes or chiltons will do
shift linkage or bushings disconnected or damaged this will take some time to inspect from shift columb to transmission my advice take it to a pro or consult one of our expert techs online chat
