Question about 1989 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

Ford truck 1989 f350 7.3 liter diesel will not accelerate as soon as you press the pedal. You have to give it a little and wait for it to rev up.

If I press the accelerator pedal too far it will stall out. If I press it a little and wait for it, it will slowly rev up.

Hi 'm Peter, First of al have you tried tis with out the air filter in. Check to see if your air filter is dirty also you ma want to check the fuel filter , when was the last time were they changed? Both could be an indication of starvation of fuel or air. When you accelerate and you get to a point where the turbo can force enough air through then you pick up a little speed however you can also damage your turbo by sucking in the seals . The fuel problem could be it takes some time for enough fuel to get through the filter to speed the engine up. Once it picks up speed and you try to punch the throttle like you are going to pass someone does it bog down in a bit? If so you used up the reserve fuel in the line and now the pump has to play catch up The fuel filter is located in the center of the engine in a round housing so get your climbing gear on unless you have really long legs you will have to stand on something or get up in there reach it all. the top comes off the housing and the filter lifts straight out. It is possible you have a fuel line sucking air but unlikely like I said lets start with the simple stuff first Air filter then fuel filter. Then we can go from there hopefully you don't have a turbo gone bad or a stuck waste gate. Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: truck misses under acceleration after it's warmed up.

that is a tricky one you have almost replaced everything. that is fuel injected if you dont have the right fuel pressure when you step on the gas it will fall on its face you need to take a fuel pressure reading and also it could be as simple as the fuel filter which is often over looked it could be cloged restricting the flow. also check the MAP sensor

Why my dodge diesel 2008 revs up

The smart alec answer would be that you have your foot on the accelerator pedal - but seriously - we need a little more info. When does it do this? Idling, driving, cold, hot? There are a few reasons that they do this but we need a little more info to answer the question correctly.

Check your TPS Throttle positioning sensor. Sounds like it has a dead spot in it or it is failing. May also be a wiring harness issue or loose connection at TPS too! If its intermittent then it will soon go out completely. It should be located on your fuel pedal. Remove it and check it with an ohm meter. Check resistance all the way thru from 0-100 percent. When it is not working it should do nothing and show no resistance. When it is working the resistance value will increase and or decrease as you turn the sensor.

No acceleration, minimal movement of accelerator pedal.

hi, test your turbo pipes,
these are common to split, its the big fat pipe o/s is the 1 that splits, feel around it im sure it has a large split. to test the turbo squeeze that large pipe and get some 1 to rev, it has to inflate very hard and open your hand, if not listen for hissing if not check the turbo and air filter as might be sucked up, again its common

Your ford has power assisted breaks this power is delivered from the motor, at the point when the accelerator is inactive. There for it sounds like your idle speed setting is too low, if you have a rev counter then it should be reading around 1000 revs at idle, if not the idle needs increasing. Hope this helps
