Check clutch cable, check clutch lever, if there is some noise from the clutch when the engine is running, then the release bearing is most likely faulty, or even the clutch pressure plate.

Does the clutch pedal go to the floor? If not the clutch is not the problem and the transmission or transmission linkage is, inspect all components for loose or damaged components.

Car stuck in first gear wont shift at all

Suspect the clutch is frozen and even when you press the pedal it does not disengage. If it shifts into other gears without the engine running. you will need to break the clutch free. Put it is high gear with the clutch depressed and rock the car back and forth with a bunch of friends pushing on it.

Kia sephia will start but when lights turned on door locks and starter motor engage?

you have wires reversed at the fuse block under hood, matbe had to replace sone of the maxi fuse's that bolt in?? the clutch is probable bad there is a test motor running emergency brake on then push clutch pedal in and try 1st gear and keep pedal down during this, go 1st gear the to reverse if wont go smoothly or grinds then most likly clutch throwout bearing is bad, maybe clutch cable is streched or not adjusted properly if it is mechanical clutch, depends on year and engine size

Gear shift stuck

Hi Ray, The advise above is good and should be checked out. If that does not solve the problem, before looking for a replacement transmission check and make sure the clutch is fully disengaging. If the clutch is mal adjusted that can also cause a problem with shifting gears. If the gears are stuck and wont shift at all the problem is most likely with the selector rods and/or forks. In that case you'll need major transmission work carried out. Regards John

Gears grind when shifting. want to know how to adjust the clutch

Some clutches are not adjustable, depends if it is hydraulicly operated or by cable.
the adjustment is usually down by the bell housing where the clutch lever is. It will have a cable attached to it with an adjustment or a little hydraulic cylinder, with or without an adjustment. Just adjust until the pedal has about one half to one inch of free play.

The vehicle wont go into gear. It goes into the gears without having to step on the clutch but the vehicle wont move. Where do i begin

First you need to check if your clutch is moving. Does the pedal move freely and easily, or is there resistance? Second, does the throw out bearing arm move with the clutch pedal and cable or, when you move the pedal, is the arm sticking out of the transmission stuck in the pushed in position? If there is no resistance and the arm is not moving, you may have a frozen cable - there's little in the transmission to cause this problem since you stated you can shift into the gears.. You'll need a helper to push the clutch pedal as you push and pull on that arm. That arm will have either a cable or a small cylinder attached to it - I believe you'll find a cable. If that cable ( which is connected to the clutch pedal ) won't move then there's your problem. You may be able to lubricate it for a temporary fix but ultimately you need to replace it. If the cable moves fine as well as that arm then you probably have a broken disc in your clutch and will need to have it replaced. Unfortunately there is no quick fix if the cable moves. If it doesn't and you don't have any lubricating spray, get some oil from your kitchen and pour some on the end of the cable at the tranny and try moving that arm back and forth - you may need a screwdriver or other tool as an extension to help.
Good luck!!

check the tension in the throttle cable on the throttle body for the pedal and if its an automatic and shifting hard change the tranny fluid for starters if it dont get fixed by then you may have to tae it to a shop, if its manual then it may be the operator just let tha clutch go slowly and smoothly nd thats the way to quit a stickshift from jumpin most of the time

The throw out bearing could cause these isues, however I would look else where before doing anything about that. A throw out bearing can be "bad" for a very long time without causing any issues other than annoyance. Is this a cable operated slave cylinder or a hydraulic? If Cable you can adjust the throw of the pedal to take up any slack that will be made from there. Your problem sounds like your not getting enough clutch pedal throw, is there allot of play in the pedal? A simple test you can do is with the car off pointing down hill (key on so steering wheel is unlocked) With the car in gear, depress the clutch pedal slowly untill the car begins to roll. If allot of travel is required then you know that your not getting full use of your clutch pedal. A Broken shift or stretched shift cable could cause this issue as well. I would start simple and work your way up. If a hyd. system it is self adjusting i would check for full fluid in the resevoir as well. Let me know how you make out and we can trouble shoot from there.

If the cluctch does not engage at all, or the clutch pedal is stuck then it is a problem with the clutch gear behind the pedal or with the clutch steel cable, have them checked.
