SOURCE: Emmission codes, Mass air flow sensor

The P0101 code is indeed a code indicating an issue with the MAF sensor. It could be something as simple as cleaning the sensor, or it could be faulty and in need of replacement.

Now, the P1870 code refers to the transmission, and a condition in which the PCM is detecting excessive slipping. That is to say it perceives the transmission slipping as it compares engine speed (RPM) and vehicle speed (MPH) and should a ratio be exceeded then the PCM will set code P1870. I would expect that you would notice a bit harsher shifting in response to this code, particularly on the 1-2 shift as the PCM will command higher fluid pressure to combat the slipping.

Now, it is possible that the an issue with the MAF would cause signals to the PCM to change significantly and to such an extent that the PCM would think something is off with the transmission, so I would start there, with the MAF sensor and see if that helps as it appears you were already thinking.

SOURCE: Could the mass air flow sensor cause 98 Jimmy to

MAF sensor usually won't prevent an engine from starting but would cause erratic idling after the engine is running. The problem is more likely fuel related (dirty fuel filter, dirty fuel injectors, failing fuel pump)

SOURCE: will a bad mass air flow sensor stop a car from

Yes,but they seldom fail
I would look a lot of places before that
If it is unplugged it won't start,if you have ducting
or air filter cover loose, it won't be able to adjust for
air flow.
You can not test it yourself
You need a scanner or back probe it with a scope etc,
who has that knowledge
Do you have any check lights or codes?

Need more vehicle history & current issues leading up to
the no start!

    Trouble codes (p0102)

the code is for low voltage at the mass air flow sensor. it could be a bad connection of the wiring or a dirty mass air flow sensor or air leaking in the hoses that connect it to air box or the throttle body. or rarely a bad computer. most likely dirty or faulty mass air flow sensor. the maf can be cleaned with spray cleaner but be gentle with it.

My chevy blazer 2000 ha a p0101 code changed the mass air flow sensor still does not want to accelerate

    Hi there:
This code is set when the MAF (Mass Air Flow) meter is not sending the PCM the correct information. This can be due to a bad conection of the rubber intake hose between the MAF and the Throttle plate opening, a dirty air filter, a dirty mass air flow or a bad mass air flow.

Most programmer have you tie into the iat sensor in the mass air flow. this can cause the the iat sensor oto short out.

    Hope helps.

Where is mass air flow senser on a 1989 buick regal

    Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The BUICK Regal Mass Air Flow sensor is usually installed in the intake air duct between the air filter and the throttle body mounted on the intake manifold. Also check the throttle body for mass air flow sensors location.
On mass air flow sensors with a sense wire, this wire can become contaminated with dust particles. These particles can be removed with automotive solvents that are safe for the use on mass air flow sensors. Before replacing the mass air flow sensor check for air leaks in the connecting air ducts and intake manifold. These leaks can cause similar symptoms as a malfunctioning mass air flow sensor.

Bad or contaminated BUICK Regal Mass Air Flow sensor can possibly cause a wide range of various vehicle drivability problems such as stalling, especially when the engine is cold, misfiring, poor acceleration, etc. In addition, a problem with the Mass Air Flow sensor often causes the "check engine" or "service engine soon" light in the vehicle instrument panel to illuminate.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks
    Rylee
