The cooling fan keeps running with the key on because the temperature switch on the bottom of the radiator is bad, the switch has an electrical connector with two wires on it, remove the connector, put a jumper wire between the two terminals if the fan stops replace the switch.
If you have the problem with the interior heater fan let me know, not sure which fan you mean.

The cooling fan comes on five minutes after starting

Unless you have the A/C on, that may be normal. The cooling fans only run once the coolant temperature exceeds about 215 degrees. It runs until the temp is down to about 200 degrees. The fans will cycle on and off as necessary to keep the coolant within that range. When the car is in motion, the airflow thru the radiator is normally sufficient to keep the coolant stable and the fans do not run. Only if you turn on the A/C will the fans runs constantly, since the A/C system needs constant airflow thru the evaporator.

Mini cooper fan keeps running when key is turned off and enngine is not hot

The resistor on the fan is bad. You can purchase a new resister or buy a new fan assembly. Mine did the same thing and I just purchased the whole fan assembly and changed it out. to change the resistor, you have to take the fan assembly out. So I just changed the whole thing.

ENGINE TEMP GOES TO HOT. I APPLIED POWER DIRECTLY TO FAN FAN OPERATES.BUT WHEN THE ENGINE GETS ABOVE OPERATING TEMP THE FAN DOES NOT RUN.

Hello,

Thanks for using FixYa.

Your problem is a simple, you have a busted thermoswitch. The thermoswitch is a sensor that engages the fan to get the engine to stay on normal operating temperatures. If the its too cold, the fan should get shut off if its to hot the fan should keep running. If the thermoswitch dies, the fan could either keep running or not run at all. Have the thermoswitch replaced. It's just a 15 minute job for a seasoned mechanic.

I hope this helps. Thanks and good day.

The fan motors keeps running after car is shut off. Also sometimes fans start when car is started cold.

If the fans didn't run any further the engine continues to warm and possible seizure will occur. This is also the reason you will probably go through batteries in the long run. Hopefully this helps the issue you are having.

Fan motor keeps running on Audi A4 2004

fan motor has a thermal switch which turns on the fan as soon as the engine heats up. what happened there is that the switch is stuck on the closed position which keeps the fan on all the time. you should go to a garrage and have the part changed.
