2001 Lincoln LS 3.0 (S) Blend door Assist Cable broken

New A/C comp., dryer and dual-heat control valve under hood. I have New Exp. vlv. but may not use... Depends on how deep I may have to go into Dash! On to Pass. compartment; Beginning to investigate blend door actuator issues, I removed glove box, detaching 'assist cable bracket'*(as labled in removal diag.(part of 06010)) in process, only to hear bracket drop out from behind box and fall on floor. No biggie, but after removing g-box liner I see a 1 in. dia. x 5 in. long spring loaded/dampening tube with a blk. string coming out of it threaded thru a guide bracket (other 1/2 of prev. mentioned bracket) then the string hangs, frayed and broken.(not unlike My nerves, BTW bracket falling indicates string was already broken, I didn't do it as Spouse claims! Ha... I digress.) I can see a nipple on the side of plenum where it is supposed to feed thru. I "EngineMan'sume" it connects to something that needs assistance!? A Blend Door, most likely. I can not find any other mention of this 'assist mechanism', drawings depicting, or clearly describing how this works inside the plenum. A plenum exp view or blend door drawing would be Great! Any info before I dive into this dash will be appreciated! Thanks in Advance! ~PPB

String and tube are for glove box, nothing to do with air plenum! I am going to semi-re-assemble center control panel to run climate control diagnostics...

SOURCE: do I have to remove the dash to get to the blend

You will have to remove the entire dashboard. Lincolns OnLine has a large database of information regarding TC's of all years. Here is a link to instructions on how to replace the BDA.

It's the dual climate control valve also known as DCCV. Very common problem with th LS. You are looking at $500 labor included to replace it. It is a real pain to DIY.

What is a 'bad dccv'

DCCV stands for Dual Climate Control Valve. It is used in the LS instead of the blend door and controls the flow of coolant to the heater core. It is a common issue with this car (either shorting out or clogging). How did you determine that it was bad?

I troubleshooting the heater in a 2000 lincoln ls and i noticed that the HEGO'S relay was missing from the fuse box that is under the hood. Does it have anything to do with the heater and what exactly...

No it has nothing to do with the heater. I am guessing you are not getting heat. Ford is famous for either the blend door motor or the blend door itself is broken. Motor is located on the air box usually at the bottom of centre of dash on the hump in the floor

The a/c in my 2001 lincoln ls isn't blowing out cold air.

sorry for the delay, it sound to me like the inside air temp sensor may be bad, causing the car to always call for heat, this sensor is usually located in the middle of the console. another thing thing that comes to mind is the air door blend is out of adjustment, these issues should be addressed by a certified a/c technician, hope this helps, HAPPY EASTER
