Oil filter location

The oil filter on your 2004 sunfire is under the air intake hose. you take this hose off by loosening the two clamps that hold it onto the air filter housing and the air intake. Under that is a black cap with a large hex head on it, i believe 1.25 inch. that is the oil filter cap. take that off and pull the used oil filter off the bottom.

Need a diagram of oil change on a 2005 Chevy Cavalier

You probably have the 2.2L ecotec engine. The oil filter is what they call a canister filter. It is located just below the fill cap under a cap/housing with a 36mm head. The o-ring on the housing/cap should be replaced with the filter. The drain plug is on the bottom of the engine on the oil pan and can be loosened with a wrench (either 13mm or 15mm depending on which drain plug was installed at the factory)

How and where do i find and change oil filter

to locate the oil filter you will need to remove the top cover of the engine, with the cover off and you standing in front of the car look toward the right of the motor and down, to the right of the intake manifold,, you will see a cap, the filter is located inside the housing, use a socket over the hex on the top of the cap and unscrew it counterclockwise, remove the cap and the filter will be on the cap, slide filter off and then you will see an oring on the cap, remove it and install new one supplied with the filter, this filter is a cartrige type, slide new filter onto cap and installtighten cap a little not to tight, lets see if i can find a diagram to help you locate it.johnjohn2_106.gif

Oil filter is spinning in the housing. scared to try to take it out

i believe that that your car has a cartridge filter (paper filter) that goes into a housing and has a cap that you take off to get to it the filter presses into the cap then you screw the cap back on most of the cartridge filter fell off of the caps and sit in the housings by the time you change your oil next.

Reputable garage tightened filter to the point that it could NOT be removed...they had to replace the housing...free of charge. Curious to know what was the price for the housing part and how to tell when...

I asume you are reffering to an oil filter. Oil filter go on hand tight and that is sufficent to stop any leaking. It sounds as if you are reffering to a canister filter. They are tightened down to just past snug. Any tighter then that can damage the cap or after it has been run for 3000 miles lock it in place to the point you have no choice but to damage the cap in order to remove it.

I need "step by step" instructions on how to replace the fuel filter on my 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup. Thanks !

Here you go if it is a diesel:
A. FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT:
The fuel filter is located inside of the fuel filter housing
1. Unscrew and remove fuel filter cap at top of fuel filter housing. To unscrew, attach tool to 6-sided hex center of cap. Do not loosen cap at outer edge. The fuel filter cap is designed to remove filter while pulling up on cap.
2. Remove O-ring from cap and discard.
3. The filter is retained to cap with little fingers. Carefully pry a couple of them off from old filter.
B. FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT:
1. Thoroughly clean inside of filter housing, cap, etc. with clean diesel fuel
2. Fill filter housing (canister) with clean diesel fuel. NOTE: If you do not do this, you will have to manually bleed air out of system later. No fun.
3. Snap new fuel filter to bottom of cap.
4. Install new O-ring
5. Apply lihgt film of clean diesel oil to cap O-ring
6. Load filter/cap into housing.
7. Tighten cap to 25 ft. lbs. torque. Do NOT over-tighten.

How do I change my oil on my 98 ford escort zx2

Try this.

On level ground, jack up the front of the car and support it with axle stands.

Get an open container that will take more than 5 ltrs.

Under the engine block you will find the sump.

On the sump you should find a 13mm nut, this is the drain plug.

Undo the drain plug and have the empty container directly below the sump plug.

Retain the sump plug and clean it with a rag.

When the oil has drained out of the sump, put back the plug making sure the washer is in good condition and the plug is tight.

Now unscrew the oil filter having the old oil container below the filter housing to catch any oil.

Wipe around the the filter housing to remove any and all old oil.

Now offer up the new oil filter but do not tighten.

If the new filter fits the oil filter housing, then remove it and lightly oil the rubber seal on the filter with clean oil.

Now refit the filter and tighten it up. Not too tight, you can do this by hand but get it as tight as you can.

Now lower the car to to the ground.

At the top of the engine you will find an oil filler cap. Undo this cap.

Now put in the new oil to just below the full mark on the dip stick. Let the oil drain through the engine to the sump for a couple of minutes before checking the oil level.

If the level is between 1/2 and full, replace the filler cap and start the engine.

Now look at the oil filter and the sump plug for any leaks. Also check around the oil filler cap for oil leaks and spillage.

With the engine turned off. Clean any oil spillages and tighten up the oil filter, sump and oil filler cap as required.

Now leave the oil to drain back to the sump for a few minutes.

Check the oil level and top up as required.

I find that it is best to top the oil up to just below the Max mark.

This should solve the problem.

Where is the oil filter located?

The engine oil filter is located just right of center if standing in front of the car. By removing the LARGE Black cap with the 36mm nut you will expose the filter element, make sure to do this before draining the oil from the drain plug in the pan. Otherwise the filter will still hold oil until loosened a bit. A typical oil change should go like this.
1. Engine Hot, not running, Loosen filter housing, don't remove yet.
2. Drain Oil, Replace plug.
3. Remove and Replace filter and O-Rings
4. Add oil.
