I'm wondering if there is a battery to replace or something has appeared on the dashboard lights to indicate an overdue service or the 'check engine light'. Maybe the brake pads need replaced. Check your owner manual for issues or log into a Chevy Malibu user forum and find out what other people have done.
Smoke alarms will bleep if they detect the battery level is too low. I'm basing my answer on this type of preventative maintenance.

Happens all the time to me. I trigger the Theft System by accident then the car won't start. try this: Put the key in the ignition. Turn it to the "on" setting, but don't try to start the engine. Let it sit for 10 minutes until the Security light stops blinking and turns off. Take the key out and restart. Warning - don't have your lights, radio, etc on while you do this or the battery may die.

This usually works.Lock the doors with the remote.Press lock twice sounding the alarm. Then press the unlock button twice.Your car should start now.If that doesnt work try this,Lock the car again with the remote once.Go over to the passenger side door and use the key to unlock the door then press in the door unlock all doors.Hopefully by now it worked. Now if none of these work your security probably malfunctioned and theres only two things that will work,One is disconnecting the battery for 5 mins then reconnecting.unlock doors.the start. If that doesnt work you'll have to take it to the dealer to get the security reset or replaced. The steps I have wrot you are the diagnostics to reset it.I hope these work for you and good luck.See ya had have a great day..

SOURCE: replacing spark plugs on a 2004 chevy malibu
2.2L Engine
Allow the engine to cool before removing the spark plugs.
Attempting to remove spark plugs from a hot engine can cause the spark
plugs to seize. This can damage the cylinder head threads.
Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug.
Failure to do so can result in engine damage due to dirt or foreign
material entering the cylinder head, or in contamination of the
cylinder head threads. Contaminated threads may prevent proper seating
of the new spark plug.
Use only the spark plugs specified for use in the vehicle. Do not
install spark plugs that are either hotter or colder than those
specified for the vehicle. Installing spark plugs of another type can
severely damage the engine.
To install:
WARNING
Do not coat spark plug threads with anti-seize compound. If
anti-seize compound is used and spark plugs are over-torqued, damage to
the cylinder head threads may result.
