Before we go assuming it is the timing, let's check a few other things...

Hi ---Audi A4 1.8 T year 2003 approx 63000 miles, engine stopped no noise. Apon inspection the timing belt is still on but very worn, will there be further engine damage

If belt is that badly warn, timing could have jumped and stopped the engine. Apparently this is a no interference engine and no noise when it stopped running means no valve or piston damage was done when it stopped. Replace the timing belt, being real sure the belt and cam timing are correct when put together.

Car has rough ideling at stops when engine is heated up...knocking noise coming from the timing belt area...will overheat occasionionally at stops

you might have a clogged radiator, your timing belt may need adjustment have a mechanic look at this immediately you could be risking blowing up your engine... it will be costly to fix but in the long run save you money by not having to buy new car

2001 jeep cherokee 4.0l won't start; good crank and fuel; stopped suddenly on road; no trouble before stop. scanner codes arePO303, PO432, PO456; 106,000 miles; has been good running car.

303 is a misfire on the number 3 cylinder, 432 is a bad catalytic converter or O2 sensor, 456 is a minor evaporator leak (Most likely the gas cap wasn't screwed on tight). Do a compression check on the motor. Most likely you'll find zero compression or low compression on 1 or more of the cylinders. I suspect your timing belt broke. Unfortunately this means you be replacing the timing belt but you will also have to have the head fixed and replace all of the valves. If the vehicle has a Distributor and not a coil pack you can remove the distributor cap and crank the motor over, if the rotor doesn't turn it is you timing belt, if it does the timing belt is good. Some vehicle also have a plastic cover over the front timing belt pulley that can be removed to check the belt. You maybe able to remove this and check it that way.

My 1999 mercury mystique shut off when i come to a complete stop

It may be the timing on the vehicle! I was having the same problem, and now I am replacing the timing belt and serpentine belt. I pray that it is the problem and that it fixes what was going on. My car basically stalled when I came to a stop or slowing down fast. Eventually, when I came to a stop got out, and when I got back in, it wouldn't start. So, I may be wrong but I am hoping I am right because of the time and effort that I have put in this vehicle.

Timing belt broken

this is an interference (valves hit the pistons) engine and will cause engine damage if the belt brakes, the best thing to do is put the belt on and see if it starts, I have seen some dodge the bullet on occasion. In most cases u will hear nothing, the engine will just stop running.
