Remove the driver side front wheel was the best way to gain access to the starter which is right there. After removing the bolts there was a lot of twisting to get it out.

Have a great day!

Bad starter motor drive, or damaged flywheel. Take out starter and look at the starter drive teeth and all around the flywheel..

Where is the starter relay for a 1999 Toyota Tacoma located?

hadder: in the engine compartment is a large box which contains fuses and relays. The starter relay is one of ones in the very rear(close to the firewall) It would be the second one in from the engine side and is a 5 pin relay. The same location applies for the four and V-6's.

Location of starter 1999 toyota tacoma

Very back of your engine where the engine meets the transmission. I believe on the left side. Driver's left. The starters are always connected to the flywheel which is always where the transmission meets the engine.

Replace starter

Disconnect the battery, then crawl under the truck and locate the starter, remove the plug going to the solenoid (small brown lead w plastic clip) . then the power wire that goes from the battery to the main starter terminal (12 mm nut) locate the 2 starter bolts 14 mm and unbolt the starter and remove. install in reverse order. ON the 4 wheel drives you may need to remove the skid plates over the bottom of the engine to access the starter.
