Ignition switch diagram

The key lock cylinder operates the ignition switch sometimes ignition switch is separate sorry I didn't find where ignition switch is located if the lock cylinder is plugged into it.
You should have a starter relay and starter relay fuse.
This diagram of starter circuit shows the clutch pedal switch in the circuit on an automatic should have the neutral safety switch in the circuit. This is for 95 Rodeo.

Not usually a good idea to replace the OE ignition switch with other types of switch - but first study the wiring diagram. An ignition switch is often at least two switches operating together in the same assembly. Often an ignition switch will at first switch on two or more circuits and then when turned to start will disconnect one or more circuits to reduce the load on the battery at what is sometimes a crucial moment.

Gas or diesel ? Does it run smoothly as normal or erratic ?

You may need a different type of switch to operate the glow plugs. This is a general diagram of the type of switch needed

Any other strange electrical issues? Headlights, blower, wipers?
Its quite possibly the ignition switch. Just had to replace it on my daughter's 97 jetta. She had first the blinkers behaving erratically, then it was random electrical issues after that. At first we were sure it was in the combination switch, or the arms off the steering column that operate the blinkers, wipers etc. Unfortunately, that change didn't fix it. After a bit more research I learned the ignition switch on these creates these symptoms. Changing the switch wasn't very difficult with a diagram and a bit of experience and the part was only about 30.00.

Hello! Disconnect +battery cable...Remove tilt lever...Remove 3 Torx column cover attaching screws...Then the upper and lower column column covers...Using a Torx with a security tip (also called tamper proof tip) #440-tx20H... Remove 3 ignition switch mounting screws...Carefully pull switch away from column...Release 2 connector locks on 7 terminal wiring connector...Then disconnect from ignition switch...Release connection lock on 4 terminal connector...Then disconnect from ignition switch.
