Question about 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

Hello, I have a 2002 Oldsmobile alero and I had my water pump changed but they left the valve open. Now my car is running hot and I need to know do I have to bleed both valve caps (thermostat and water pump)?

Honestly it sounds like your thermostat is either bad or was put in backwards,

If your radiator is of copper, the cooling fins could be deteriorated to a point that it falls apart just by touching them with your fingers. The back side may look OK but it deteriorates from the front by rain, wind and debris.

2002 silhoutte new tstat, radiator, belts and hoses runs hot no water at bleeder valve water pump 2 yrs old

It is running hot because have an air lock in the system. Check that the bleeder valve is not blocked . Take a hose off that is high up and run the engine until water comes out . Replace the hose and check for water in the radiator. Open the heater system to help bleed out the air.. If that fails take it to a radiator s\hop and have them pressure bleed it.

more than likely it is just low on power steering fluid. system might have air in it now. so after fill power steering unit to proper level driver the car and check fluid level again. and add more if needed . I believe car should have motor running for when checking fluid, same as transmission.

1999 Alero: I replace the head gaskets thermostat water pump n...

OK you have done the engine side of things. If you have an electric radiator cooling fan make sure it comes on when radiator is hot, if not the fan motor is caned or the thermostat switch is faulty. Sometimes the fan motor is supplied by a fused/relayed circuit in which case these items will also need to be checked. Check that not only does the top hose from the engine to radiator get hot but that the bottom one does too. If not this would indicate a blockage perhaps in the radiator core due to sludge. If full of sludge give both ends a flush out with a high pressure hose. Like wise do the same with the bottom hose back to the pump. If the water is circulating and the radiator fan is working then the normal cooling system is working as it should. f the engine is running hot one last thing is to find the EGR valve and check that it is opening as it should. If not the combustion temperatures go very high. One indicator of a hot engine is blue/glazed spark plugs so take one out and check it for signs of hot running. If hot then look to clean the EGR valve and associated exhaust gas feeder pipe with frayed cable, cloth and and carb cleaner spray.

Why my 1999 oldsmobile alero runnig hot after I've gotten it fix

there may be air trapped in the coolant system. the fans may not be connected since you had the radiator replaced. bring it back to the mechanic who did the work and tell him your not satisfied.he should be responsible for the discrepany.
