You can attach a siphon to the fuel line from the pump back to the tank and use it to detect any leaks in the line. You can also check the carb the same way, running it on fuel from siphon. If both check out OK, you can use an electric pump or replace the mechanical pump. Either should work providing that the "sock" inside the tank is not obstructed.

64' cj5. miss firing, tuned distributer, not missfiring anymore. if i give it gas it idles fine for a sec then starts to bog. i'm stuck between carb and plugs ????

Pull the plugs and look at them if they are black take a look at the carb. generally though bad plugs will give you a high speed misfire unless they are totally shot. A bog from thje carb is generally due to a bad accelerator pump (inside) or a bad power valve (also inside). Accelerator pump should give a visible squirt when you look into the carb and move the throttle linkage (do with engine off).

I have a 1979 Jeep CJ5 6 cyl. The Jeep starts and

With the engine off, Look down into the carburetor and move the throttle. If you don't see a healthy squirt of fuel. the accelerator pump has failed. The carb may also have deposits in the fuel passageways and may need an overhaul including a good soak in carb cleaning solution.

Troubleshooting fuel system for 1975 jeep cj5

Fuel pumps just supply fuel to the carb. Either they work or don't work. I would make sure that the mixture screws on the carb are set properly. Turn the screws in to lean out the mixture, do one at a time.
You want to turn the screws in to the point where the jeep will start to idle rough and then back out a 1/2 turn. Check your timing also. If the jeep has alot of miles on it, the timing chain will stretch and it's possible that you cannot get the correct timing.

151 4 cyl , runs for 20 min perfect then starts bucking and seems like its starving for fuel and wants to stall. let it sit for half hour and its fine, starts right up. i suspect carb. malfunction have...

Could be carb but you should also look and make sure the fuel supply line is not running near the exhaust manifold or anywhere it could experience high temps as it may be boiling the gas in the line and could be "vapor locking" the fuel line. After it cools, the vapor dissipates and the unit has plenty of liquid gas then. Also check the manual fuel pump if it has one and make sure it is not faulting. The diaphragm could be getting weak and the engine heat could be causing it ti get soft and lose it's ability to draw fuel. Good Luck!
