Check your hoses and connections, you may have a hole on the vacume side of the system sucking air or your system is over full?

Bubbles usually is a real or hole allowing air to be sucked into the system

Its really hard to turn the steering wheel in 1995 cadillac deville. there is power steering fluid in the car. what could be causing this?


If your Rack and Pinion is worn it could do this, if the Fluid is OLD, it could also do that. How much Power Steering is there? Did you hit anything? Could your have bent a Control Arm or Tie Rod End or could the Power Steering Pump just have gone out? Remove the Cap and see if there is Air Bubbles and Movement inside your Pump Reservoir? Are you sure you are checking the Right Reservoir? Any of the above could be the cause.

Where is the bleed valve for a power steering box


Open the hood and check the level of the power-steering fluid by removing the power-steering reservoir cap. Add the correct fluid recommended in your owner's manual to bring the level up to the full mark. Be aware that fluid that looks foamy is an indication of air in the system. Replace the cap.
Locate the power-steering bleed valve on top of the steering box near the bottom of the engine bay. Follow the power-steering, high-pressure lines from the power-steering pump to the steering box if you have trouble locating it.
Push a 6-foot length of rubber hose onto the end of the bleed valve. Run the other end of the hose into a drain pan.
Start the engine. Loosen the bleed valve fitting slightly with an adjustable wrench in a counterclockwise direction. Turn the steering wheel all the way to its stop one way and then the other several times. Shut the engine off.
Close the bleed valve by tightening it with an adjustable wrench in a clockwise direction. Remove the power-steering reservoir cap, and add fluid to bring the level up to the full mark.
Observe the power-steering fluid that came out of the rubber hose into the drain pan. Repeat the above procedure if there are air bubbles in the fluid. Close the bleed valve and remove the rubber hose when there are no air bubbles in the fluid expelled from the bleed valve. Close the hood.

Why is power steering fluid spewing out of the cap after replacing bad leaking power steering pump


You have Air in the Power steering System and it needs to be bleed out, And to do this if you Jack the two front wheels off the ground and Let them Hang free so there is No Load on the steering at all. please put some type of stands under the car, You will need more power steering fluid but before you add this you need to start your Car and turn the steering Wheel Slow from left to Right a few times, You will hear a wearing Notice come from the pump and you will see more fluid come out of the pump as well, that is the air trying to bleed its self out. The fluid coming out will be air rated lots of bubbles in it, Now that you have done this the Noise from the pump should start to go quite at this Point you can start to Add the New power steering fluid slow to the reservoir and keep turning the steering wheel from left to right slow (Never Fast but slow ) Have a lot of rags to clean the Mess. You likely have a bad power steering pump or a hose that is leaking. Do not put any fluid other than power steering fluid in the power steering reservoir. if you do you will wreck the hoses and pump. Better not drive it till you get it repaired or you may ruin something else or have an accident.

The power steering isn't working. The reservoir was empty and I added power steering fluid and it still very hard to steer

After I replaced the power steering pump and reservoir on my 2002 Jeep, I still get air in the system. Where could it be coming from?


Your problem could be a pressure side hose that has a rupture that only leaks in extreme conditions. Inspect to replace with new to repair problem. First make sure you have removed the pump caps off of the hose fittings. If ok, it appears you may have a stuck valve in the rack assembly. Replacing the rack should solve your problem. ------- The new pump should be self-bleeding by turning the wheels left and right. Let sit over night to release air bubbles, recheck fluid level.------ Check the tension of the drive belts on the pump, as they may be loose. The power steering pump and reservoir is located on the front of the engine driven by one of the fan belts. There is a removable cap on the top with a dipstick attached. With the engine off, fill this up to the full mark with power steering fluid. Replace the cap, start the engine and check for leaks. On the back of the pump are two hoses either one could be leaking. REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Wipe the power steering cap and area free of dirt. Remove the power steering cap.

2. Use a siphon pump to remove as much fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir.

3. With a helper in the vehicle, raise the vehicle on an appropriate hoist.

WARNING :POWER STEERING FLUID, ENGINE PARTS, AND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM MAY BE EXTREMELY HOT IF THE ENGINE HAS BEEN RUNNING. DO NOT START ENGINE WITH ANY LOOSE OR DISCONNECTED HOSES. DO NOT ALLOW HOSES OR POWER STEERING FLUID TO TOUCH HOT EXHAUST MANI FOLD OR CATALYST.
4. Locate the power steering cooler attached to the crossmember support plate. Slide back the clamp and disconnect one of the two power steering return hoses at the power steering oil cooler and drain fluid in an appropriate container.
5. Have the helper turn the steering wheel back and forth quickly several times to force as much fluid as possible from the steering gear.
6. Reconnect the hose at the oil cooler using the original clamp.
7. Lower vehicle so the vehicle tires are not contacting the ground.
9. For proper fluid fill and bleeding air from the power steering system:

a. Fill the power steering reservoir to the top of the fill range using Mopar power steering fluid (ATF+4) p/n 05013458AA.

b. With the engine OFF and the vehicles tires off the ground, slowly turn the steering wheel back and forth (lock to lock) slowly 20 times to force fluid into the steering gear.

c. Fill the power steering reservoir to the top of the fill range.

d. Start engine and let run for a few seconds, then turn oft engine.

e. Check fluid level and add if necessary.

f. Start engine, and slowly turn the steering wheel lightly contacting the left and right stops.

g. Stop the engine and check fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.

h. Lower vehicle, start engine and slowly turn steering wheel lock-to-lock.

I. Stop engine and check fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.

j. If fluid is extremely foamy, allow vehicle to stabilize a few minutes, then repeat steps "i" and "j" until the fluid level remains constant after running the engine and turning the steering wheel from lock to lock.

10. Inform the vehicle owner/operator that a steering vibration may be noted for a few hundred miles until the air is completely removed from the steering system.

When I turn the steering wheel, I hear a whining sound that gets louder the quicker I turn the wheel. It happens when turning left or right. Is this power steering? Or maybe an issue with the wheels?


u have a defectgive power steering pump, check the fluid level 1st, if that is ok flush the system and replace the pump, this will require a special power steering pulley puller and installer tool.

Steering wheel is very hard to turn. What could be the problem?


You are either low on fluid or have a return line leaking. Pull the cap off the reservoir and check the level and also if there are bubbles in the fluid. Bubbles indicate a leak in return line or seal.

It could be the pump, or you could also be low on power steering fluid. First off, check the level of the fluid and make sure it's adequate. Next, you can "burp" the power steering system easily, which will get rid of any air bubbles that could be in there. Easiest way is to jack the front end off the ground (both wheels), start the engine, take off the power steering fluid reservoir cap, and turn the wheel side to side as far as it'll go, several times. This circulates the fluid through the system and pushes any bubbles in there up to the reservoir, where they'll float up to the top and "burp" into the air.

If neither of those things works, you may have problems with the steering rack and pinion, or possibly with your suspension (check the tie rods, inner and outer, as well as the bushings in the various suspension pieces).
