Either the cap will have a stick muonted to it or there will be lines on the side of the resivour. If neither of these can be found, a good rule would be fill the res tank to about 3/4 full with engine running.

Make sure u check the level with the car running. If the fluid level is still good and still have a steering wine. you have a fluid restriction. This would involve replacing the power steering resivior. The filter screen gets clogged and causes a restriction hope this helps.

Possibly dirt in the grooves of the belt. remove the belt and clean the grooves with a wire brush. If you get a lot of dirt and powder out of it clean it good and reinstall. Might work. did for mem on my 03 Sebring.

bleed power steering with engine off pour power steering fluid in the power steering reservoir until fluid stay at full mark on powersteering pump dip stick.wait few minutes then check powersteering fluid again if low add little more when fluid level stop dropping crank vechicle turn steering left to right with out a stop turn steering wheel all the way to the left to all way to right for minute until air bubbles leave the powersteering fluid. when steering wheel feel normal stop engine check check power steering fluid should be at full hot mark if fluid level dont drop air is out the system. dont overfill powersteering reservoir if so you will blow front seal.dont drive vechicle if steering dont feel normal have vechicle towed in garage.

Bleed power steering on 2008 dodge avenger


to bleed power steering, with front wheels off ground slightly with front wheels pointing straight ahead.engine off. remove power steering filler cap.add power steering until fluid level stop dropping,wait couple minutes and wait, add fluid until level stay at full cold mark on power steering cap dip stick. dont over fill.when fluid level stop dropping, start vechicle,let it idle few minutes. see if fluid level drop if so add more fluid full cold mark.then turn steering all the way to left and right with out hitting a stop.turn steering wheel several times, then turn front wheels pointing forward check power steering fluid level.if power steering fluid level stop dropping air should be out of system, if steering turning wheel dont turn smoothly and power steering fluid look light tan color air getting in the system.check all power steering lines to rack and power steering pump for leaks.be sure you replaced all the power steering lines with new o rings if not you will get a leak.if you find a leak, you need to fix the leak and bleed system again.dont drive vechicle if your steering dont feel right,have vechicle towed to a garage.

Have you checked the power steering fluid level? The reservoir for the fluid will be at the front of the engine, where the belt runs the power steering pump. If it's low or out add a little power steering fluid till full, then start car and slowly turn wheels back and forth from stop to stop-not too ******* the stops (when the steering won't turn further that way...that's what I mean by stops)....Turn wheel one way full travel, then reverse and turn the other way. Check the fluid level again, and add as needed.
If fluid is not low, the belt may be too loose to make the power steering pump work, or you may have a bigger problem that needs professional attewntion.

FIRST OF ALL TURN OFF RADIO REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. THEN REMOVE POWER STEERING PUMP FLUID FROM POWER STEERING PUMP.USING A HAND PUMP SIPHON. BE CAREFUL DONT GET POWER STEERING FLUID ON CAR PAINT IT WILL DAMAGE PAINT JOB.PUT A DRAIN PAN UNDERNEATH CAR TO CATCH POWER STEERING FLUID THEN DISCONNECT POWER STEERING PUMP LINES.REMOVE POWER STEERING PUMP ADJUSTER BOLT AND MOUNTING BOLT.REMOVE POWER STEERING PUMP.MOST OF THE TIME NEW POWER STEERING PUMP DONT HAVE DRIVE PULLEY ON IT SO TAKE TO A MACHINE SHOP THE WILL REMOVE PULLEY FROM OLD PUMP AND PRESS ON THE PULLEY TO NEW POWER STEERING PUMP.BESURE TO BUY NEW O RINGS TO END OF PRESSURE LINE.ONCE NEW POWER STEERING PUMP HAS PULLEY IN PLACE AND YOU HAVE NEW O RING FOR HIGH PRESSURE LINE.INSTALL NEW PUMP.ADJUST BELT TENSION.NOW BLEED POWER STEERING PUMP WITH FRONT WHEELS POINT STRAIGHT A HEAD POSITION.POUR POWER STEERING FLUID IN PUMP UNTIL FLUID LEVEL ON COLD MARK ON POWER STEERING PUMP DIP STICK.KEEP ADDING FLUID UNTIL FLUID STOP DROPPING. Power steering pump replaced, start to work ok, after 10 milles driving, steering wheel is hard, like pump is not working, under hood everything look ok.

power steering does NOT have an overflow it will have to be taken out ps fluid is usually red or sometimes a yellowish color. if its clear i would check brake fluid

My ford focus 04 auto makes a grinding noise when the steering is on full lock to the right also the power steering fluid gets low very quickly


you have a power steering leak, when in full lock position the power steering pump is actually sucking in air and this is your noise. you will have to locate the leak and replace the leaking part and fill it to proper level.Ford will accept trans fluid for power steering fluid.

some do some dont if you have a look under the bonnet see if theres a cannister that is labelled power steering fluid if your not sure turn the steering wheel to full lock with the engine running when you hold it on full lock it should make a sort of rubbing noise if it does its power steer if its power steering make sure your fluid is full also a broken power steering belt would cause it not to function also it only works with the engine running
