Question about 1994 BMW 3 Series

1 Answer

The horn is not working on my N reg 316i. Horn sounds when connected directly to battery & fuse is OK. I do not have a manual but wonder whether there is a relay on this circuit, if so where is it & how can I test it, if not what can I try next?

Here is the problem
In most cases this problem is caused by the rotating ribbon circuit contact under the steering wheel having a broken filament, the part is known as a clock spring contact, u will need to properly disarm the airbag and remove the steering wheel to access the part. WARNING: Failure to follow factory Airbag disarming protocol can result in an unexpected Airbag deployment and possible serious personnel injury or death.

HORN NOT WORKING

There is usually only 1 wire to the horn from the steering column, via a relay. Disconnect this wire and run a bit of wire from the positive terminal of the battery direct to where you took the wire off. The horn should sound. If it does, then you know the horn is ok and the fault is probably the relay , broken wire, blown fuse or poor connection in the horn circuit. If the horn doesn't work, then you know that the horn itself has failed.

Where is the fuse for the horn?

Why not put battery voltage directly to the
horn & end the wondering about the horn it'self

If the horn fuse or any fuse blew, replacing
it is not a fix, they fail for a reason

Check all fuses

Look in your owners manual

That is what it is for, fuses & lamps, have to have one

Horn on 2006 Dodge Stratus does not work. What do I do to fix it?

I would say a new horn

Put battery voltage directly to it
& see if it works

If it made any sound-- how could it be a fuse ?

If it was a fuse, nothing would happen & a new
fuse wouldn't do anything, until you found & fixed
the reason a fuse failed

How to repair mitsubishi

Not being smart but get a manual or youtube it. You need to remember that the air bag is located near the horn device. You can be hurt by the bag if it inflates.

Horn won't work. and already checked fuse.

the problem may be that the horn is faulty or the horn button on the steering wheel is not making contact, check for loose wires & connections, to check the horn remove the wire(s) from it then connect a wire to the positive terminal of the battery then to the horn if the horn is OK it should work if not it is faulty & will need replacing,if the horn has two wires to it you will need another wire from the negative terminal of the battery to the horn as well........hope this helps......cheers

First u need to check horn by direct battery supply, before that u can try to hear the horn relay sound. If horn & horn relay is ok then u can check steering horn switch/ Ribbon. Wel, is there glowing chk light ?

Having problem with horn. No horn.Fuse and relay good.

get two seperate wires and connect it to terminals of the horn then connect it directly to the battery and see if it will work. if not, then your horn is busted.

Fuse diagram

The fuse box is located under the engine hood on the left side, near the upper strut housing or near the battery. it should say which one controls the horn either in the back of the owners manual or under the fuse box lid. if not the fuse than the horn itself might be bad. hope this helps
