Either you have a faulty oil pressure switch or the pick up screen of the oil pump is clogged. I would change the switch first as it's 10 bucks not expensive then go on from there

High temp low oil pressure light comes on after driving for a few minutes, then off when engine at driving rpm. At stop light (idle or low rpm) light comes back on. Normal driving it goes out.

You need to find out why you have low oil pressure. It is normal that as engine rpm's increase, the oil pressure will rise- the oil pump is moving oil faster. Even though your light goes out, you could still have critically low oil pressure. There should be sufficient pressure at idle to keep the light off. The light will come on when your oil pressure is almost nil- I believe for some it's as low as 8 psi. Normally, oil pressure at idle is specified anywhere from 15 to 40 psi. You would have to check specifications for your Expedition. To verify oil pressure, hook up a mechanical gauge at the oil pressure sending unit on the engine block. Check with a local shop.

The causes run from easy, simple to budget busting ruin. Low oil level, wrong grade oil, real old oil, oil leaks, internal oil leaks, worn oil pump, worn crankshaft bearings. It was pretty common on older very high mileage cars to have a fluttering oil light at stops and idle. It was time for a rebuild, or time to look for another car.

Either you have a bad oil pump, or your oil sending unit is bad. You can easily find either at your corner auto parts store. (Autozone, Advanced Autoparts, Napa, Etc.)

Oil light flashing while stopping or turning 1999 mercury sable

This could be caused by a number of things. I've seen everything from low oil level (which is what you should check first), to a faulty sensor or loose wire cause this. If when you check the oil the level is fine, get a buddy to sit in the car and watch the light while you wiggle the wires that attached to the oil pressure sending unit. If the light flickers, you know you've got a loose wire in that connection and it will need to be looked at. Definitely check the oil level first...this is the most common cause. When you come to stop or turn a corner, the oil in your oil pan sloshes around, back and forward, side to side. Depending on where your oil pikeup tube is located in the pan, this can cause a small air gap which will utterly demolish your oil pressure causing the light to come on. Since the oil is sloshing back and forward this would cause a break in pressure, followed by a return of pressure, followed by another break respectively depending upon how low your oil level is and how often the tube sucks in air. It seems really simple but definitely check that first. Let me know if this doesn't work out and I'll see what else we can come up with.

Why does my low oil pressure light comes on when making left and right turns

Oil level is probably low. When you turn, your oil splashes to the right or left and your pump is not able to pick up the proper amount of oil to pump. If the level is proper, you might have the wrong grade of oil. Check your owners manual for proper weight for the driving sonditions you are in.

Whats the purpose of an oil pressure switch can it determine weather oil leaks from your grand prix or not?

The oil pressure switch or sending unit is a unit that receives an electrical signal showing what your cars oil pressure is.And yes it does partially does let you know when there is a problem somewhere in the oil system. For example if your filter gets clogged up your oil pressure will go down and then go up when you accelerate. If there was a leak in the system first you would probably see the leak And if the oil pump or oil pump shaft were to break you would have no oil pressure. So you can see the importance of having an oil pressure switch.I feel there are 2 guages that are important to watch are your oil guage and water temp guage they can tell you allot about how your car is operating.

What causes a low oil pressure light to come on

The light it controlled by an oil pressure sending unit. These can go bad and turn a light on even if you have good oil pressure, but...
You need to get a "mechanical gauge " hooked up where the sending unit is to verify if you have good pressure or not. Low oil pressure is due to, low oil, worn out oil, excessive bearing wear, or a failing oil pump.

Oil light comes on

Check the oil level. Back when I was 16 my car's oil light came on when turning corners. Turned out it was low on oil by about 3 quarts!!!

If the level is good then you probably have low oil pressure. Install a (mechanical) oil pressure gauge and compare that to what the reading is supposed to be (you can get that info from a service manual).

Good luck.
