Sound like your head light switch is at fault. I would start there. Remove it. Smell it and inspect the plug also

If you're smelling insulation burning - STOP. Fuses should be blowing before insulation melts / burns.

Have the car checked my a trusted mechanic before using anything in the car that makes the wiring burn or melt.

Smelling burning wires is a serious issue and should be looked at before using the vehicle again. You are testing fate with a fire for sure. Why are the fuses not blowing? There is a fuse for dash lights and they are all labeled in your fuse box. check for a faulty fuse by replacing it. If that one blows you have a real problem. That short could be anywhere and not an easy fix. There is a bird nest of wires in your dash that would need to be checked out one at a time. I would be starting with the lights switch connections and go from there.

Steve is 100 % correct. Possible printed circuit burn out also. I have also seen a voltage spike and burn out the bulbs.

SOURCE: my car smells like burning rubber whenever i turn it off

I am not really sure what your problem is but if you have over sized tires on the car when you turn you could be getting this smell or someone changed the oil in the car they got a lot of oil in the frame and while driving it is getting on the drive belt and that will also give off a burning rubber smell

SOURCE: Burning smell when ac is turn on

well as for the ford man sorry to here that. I am a holden man myself, but it is most likly that your fan switch is on its way out if you have a test light just pop the switch out and see if you have power to your high setting if not replace your switch. And for mgauthier I would suggest you just reroute your overflow pipe so it overflows onto the ground not onto hot metal parts. But you shouldn't have coolant coming out your overflow all the time. As for burning smell it was probably the switch burning out and failing.

SOURCE: burning smell

The sulphur smell is the result of the emmisions control system. I have an 06 Expedition with the exact same engine and emmisions system as yours. When the engine is cold, you don't smell that sulphur smell, but as soon as the engine gets to operating temperature, the exhaust gasses smell sulphury. Nothing wrong with your ride - they all do that. The dealership sometimes spray the underbody with some type of rubber to protect the vehicle against rust. This rubber stuff sometimes get sprayd on the exhaust as well and then you will smell "burning tires" after driving the vehicle. This will go away after a few thousend miles though.

SOURCE: car drives fine sometimes

sputter, backfires, droping of rpm's usually coz of fuel stravation, check fuel pumps, fuel filter, cars with carbs checks fuel floats fuel line... if fuel line is blocked will result with the same symptoms... another angle you need to check is electrical... uneven or unstable electric supply will result to the same problem... if your encourtering bad smell, maybe you have an overheat engine, or oil level is very low... check brakes maybe you have a broken brake linnings { this just pops up to my head}...

anything from a slipping belt to a pressure pipe leaking ,even dry steering joints ,try putting some engine oil on top of the mc pherson strut ,under the bonnet and where the 3 bolts are in the middle is a bearing underneath and if it has plastic cover on top lift this out and introduce a few squirts of engine oil ,not that fish oil spray and leave the oil to soak down and this will lubricate the bearing .Other than that i have no idea without my head under the bonnet iam afraid .

Toyota Corolla The parking lights and tail lights wont turn. Did smell a burning smell. Change brake light switch 2 months ago

Check the fuse for the lights- I'll bet it's blown. If it is, it may be because of a short in the wires or something. If you changed the light switch, whoever did it might have messed the wiring up a little bit and they just need to be taped better or something. You can replace the fuse and see what happens next.

It could be many things but I would start by taking off the starter and taking it to auto zone to have it tested. Also u may have burnt the wire that runs from the starter to the battery replace it. See if that solves your problem

My 2001 grand marquis heater turns on but wont blow i smelled a strange smell before it quit

Could have been the resistor or the blower motor. It was probably a burning wire smell.
Check the blower motor for power and ground.

Nissan smell

the smell probably came from a wire that is shorting out-maybe when the headlights are turned on-look at the wires right behind the headlight-look for burned or bubled insolation on the wires-cheers Denny

Possible some wiring is burning or melting from under the dashboard have it checked again, the smell does it seem like burnt rubber or plastic?
Have it checked since you mentioned that the lights has gone. see the fuses as well just to be sure.
Better get an expert check it to be sure that nothing will be missed on the issue. If it is a wiring issue then the best thing is have the electrical rewired for best results.

I drive 3181 N42 02 Reg. I'v been told the car has oil leak, jus yesterday whilst driving I could smell something like burning metal and a particular noise I don't know where it is coming from. Please...

Let an auto tech look at it because one way or the other it's going to end up on some tech's hands. Burning oil smell must be from the valve cover leak and dripping on top of the hot exhaust manifold burning it. The only time I smelled burning metal odor was from a smelting plant. It had an acidic smell that going to put you in tears.
