1998 chevy 1500 silverado 5.7 liter 2 wheel drive missfired, jerked and died it would not start.

The first thing you do is run an OBD2 engine control module fault code test, this engine is fully electronically controlled. You will need a code reader to do this test, rent one or borrow one from a local auto parts store like Autozone or O'reilly. The test connector under the dash in front of the driver. What make a transmission jerks when you put it in drive

Testing your trans with a scanner will be required as your trans is electronically controlled, you could also have a engine missfire and this could possibly feel like the transmission jerking. Once again testing will a capable scanner will be required to determine any engine electronic faults.
