Question about 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser

1 Answer

I have a 2002 non turbo PT Cruiser with new zero miles engine installed. Engine will not run as computer is locked in Theft Mode. We never had an alarm system installed but I'm told the car is wired and they believe "after market". We've owned it since new. If I replace the ECM with a rebuilt one, will it automatically default again to "Theft Mode"? Chrysler wants $850 but I can get the ECM on line for $160. Can I do this myself? Must I remove the alarm system wiring?

The ECU is not reading the chip in the key. Replacing the ECU will not solve the problem. It is an input issue(signal to ECU) not an output issue ( signal from ECU). Perform an OBDII scan of stored fault history. Probably an ignition switch problem.

SOURCE: 1992 Chrysler LeBaron 3.0 L.

the owner probably rerouted the fuel line because like my 92 chrysler lebaron v6 3.0 the fuel lines keep seeming to come off and the clamps always break. I have replaced the clamps 5 times in a month and replaced filters 2 times in 2 months. The only thing i could think of is that your fuel is being cut off possibly because there is no filter to clean all the junk out. Try putting a fuel filter on and see if that will work

SOURCE: Overheating engine

Check your oil dipstick for coolant, or a mucky substance. Your symptoms sound like a blown head gasket.

How do i change the turbo motor and put a non turbo motor in a 2003 pt cruiser

Changing out an entire engine is no easy feat. The biggest difference you'll have is with the exhaust system. The non turbo engine connects differently.

2002 Pt Cruiser engine shuts off suddenly

take it to an auto electrician and have all the ground wires checked out
what you describe is a loose /broken wire that moves after the bump and cuts off a circuit
moving what ever you move is moving something and making the circuit good again

Timing belt replaced on 2002 PT cruiser which idles roughly

Yes,your 2.4 engine is a interference engine,the mechanic should of showed you the bent valves and not installed the timing belt.Did he tell you they were bent when you paid or you found out after you drove home.I would go back and demand money back,if he's won't pay back,go to the BBB and report him and take him to small claims court,your engine is bad.

I am unable to replace my timing belt on my 2001 PT Cruiser I have 120,000 miles on my car.....Can it make it to 122,000??? I am trying to get the money together as we speak........Do you know???

some people dont bother to change the belt at all(NOT RECCOMMENDED) so, as long as you dont redline it in every gear,it could go on for a lot longer(i hope...)
feedback??

I blew the turbo on my 2005 pt cruiser limited ed. I replaced the entire turbo,and added new sparks...(only has 52k miles) Since then my car does not get over 65mph without feeling like its stalling...

What kind of spark plugs did you use??? Here is a list of plugs that you can use on your Turbo engine.

Champion
* Copper - stock # 440 - RE14MCC5 (OEM)
* Copper - stock # 470 - RE14MCC5 (supercedes/replaces # 440, but some catalogs same part #)
* Copper - RE16MC (supercedes/replaces RE14MCC5 and new Chrysler recommended gap is .040)

NGK
* Copper - LZTR4A-11 (supercedes/replaces RE14MCC5 and new * Chrysler recommended gap is .040)
* Copper - stock # 4306 - LZTR5A-13 (one range colder)

If you use the platinum spark plugs used on the Non-turbo engine, they will start to glow and cause misfires and can cause engine damage to saver detonations throughout the RPM cycle.

As for the over heating, you could have a blown head gasket from a severer detonation if you notice coolant and oil mixing in your engine and coolant tank. The less cause for over heating wold be a bad thermostat or a faulty radiator cooling fan, cooling fan relay or cooling fuse which is located in the engine compartment fuse box by the battery.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.
