If you have already replaced the fuel filter, measure the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. It should be around 35-40 psi when running. If it is not in this range, consider replacing the fuel pressure regulator.

SOURCE: fuel pump stays running after car is turned off. battery stays dead have to get jumped to start car.

The only way the pump will run is if it has a live 12v dc supply to one side and an earth return to the other.

Most cars have the earth side of the pump grounded down to the chassis so I would go for the fact that you have a short on the loom or a faulty ignition barrel.

An auto electrician would isolate the pump wiring to see where the feed was coming from then repair the fault

SOURCE: 1989 buick century 3.3 car starts idles but wont run when giving gas it acts like running out of fuel but fuel pump stay running and has pressure new fuel filter spray carb cleaner it will stay runnin

have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it if so how many ponds of pressure does it have also if this is a distributerless car turn engine with a socket see if there is slack in rotation if you turn counter clockwise 1/4 turn stop and turn clockwise if so you more than likely have a stretched timing chain or jumped time

I put a new fuel pump in rear tank and fuel filter but not starting.im getting fire at fuel pump but no fire from relay .i put new relay still nothing

Fuel pump will usually only run when on Crank. When engine fires up then it stays running. This is so it won't pump in a crash.

Check fuel pressure first, you could have a bad fuel pump.

My '99 chevy truck with 5,7L 350 will start but wont stay running. put new fuel pump and relay switch in

First you must determine if the fuel is stopping or the spark is stopping..If the fuel is stopping this could be a computer problem.. If the spark is stopping then it could be the IGN Module in the distributer. or any nomber of sensors. Squirt a little fuel directly into the Throttle body on the intake manifold.. If the truck runs longer its probably loss of fuel.. Do this several times to make sure, be careful and only use a small amounty of fuel.. you do not want a fire.. RE: Spark: Take a plug wire and an old plug..put the wire on the plug.. hold the plug against a good ground .. have someone crank the engine .. does the plug stop firing? The engine dies.. and will not restart for a minuet or so.. during this "no start" time do the plug test. If the plug will not fire during this time take the module out and take it to Orillys Auto parts.. They can test it.. really expensive part. Don't replace until you know it is BAD..

The car quit running after starting. When I tried to start it again, it acts like it's not getting fuel. It turns over normally, but won't fire.

Follow air filter hose to injector prime injector see if it starts if you keep priming and it wont stay running replace fuel filter if that don't work you have a bad fuel pump.

I have a 1994 Volvo 940 Turbo. Just lately it has been hard to start. It will crank but won't fire. Sometimes it fires but won't stay running. At first it was doing this only when the engine was warm, but...

Spray some gum out in air flow sensor and see if it starts up.
If it does you need a new fuel pump. To confirm look for schrater valve on fuel rail, put a rag around it and wear eye protection. Push valve and see if fuel shots out while the vehicle IS NOT RUNNING. I fuel does not shoot out you have no residual pressure and need a new pump.
The other thing is to place key in ignition and put it to on position you shoulsd hear a buzzing sound from pump.

2000 1500 Sierra will not stay running step on gas act like its running out of gas. Popped top fuel line gas came poured outbut didn't pump out when i rolled the engine over. Got underneath the fuel cell...

Replace the fuel pump and fuel filter to correct the problem you are having. Without the proper fuel pressure the engine will not run at all. Hope this will help you. You might check the fuse/relay panel for a blown fuse or relay in it to make sure you are getting power to fuel pump before you go to the trouble of removing the pump and fuel filter. Hope this will help you.

Put seafoam into gas tank, replaced ignition coil wire only, won't start acts like choke stuck, fires but won't stay running

3 words- "Fuel Pump Failure"

Sea Foam is a bad idea- its a good temporary fix but the cons outway the pro's-

When you first start your vehicle the pump has enough pressure to fire but it doesnt have enough ump to keep the proper pressure level and the engine dies- anything after 1995 has 1 to 2 pound variance of pressure anything less than that and the fuel pressure regulator fails to operate properly

Rolling over and it fires but wont stay running

If you are getting "fire at the plugs", then it is probably a fuel delivery problem. It is very common for the fuel pump to fail in these vehicles, particularly if the truck is run below 1/4 tank of fuel very long. Slide under the truck at the tank and have someone turn on the key. if you don't hear a humming noise then your pump is not running. Check fuses, fuel pump relay, and sending terminals for bad connections. Replace the pump assembly.
